Baseball Falls to Randolph-Macon on Sunday in Double-Header
ASHLAND - The Roanoke College baseball team dropped a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference games to Randolph-Macon on Sunday evening.  The Maroons (11-14, 4-10 ODAC) fell to the Yellow Jackets (15-11, 10-5 ODAC) 9-5 in the first game and 20-1 in game two.
 
The Maroons got on the board first, scoring two runs in the second inning.  Cam Cassady and Kevin Oakey each scored as Danny Creel tabbed one RBI reaching on a throwing error.  Roanoke led the Yellow Jackets 2-0 after the top of the second.  Randolph-Macon responded in the bottom of the inning, however.  Tim Benjamin scored after a teammate had an RBI infield out.  He was followed by Bryan Miltenberger scoring on a bases loaded walk to Nate Meniers.  Keeler also took an RBI hit by pitch to score Blake Saathoff.  After two innings, Randolph-Macon led 3-2.
 
Roanoke tied the game in the top of the fourth as Danny Creel hit an RBI single, scoring Cam Cassady for the second time in the game.  But, it was in the bottom of the same inning where the Yellow Jackets broke away from the Maroons.  The scoring was all spurred by a bases loaded triple by Nicholas Maiolo, putting Randolph-Macon ahead by three, 6-3.  The Yellow Jackets scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the bottom of the fifth.  After five, Randolph-Macon led 9-3.  The Maroons started to make a comeback in the top of the seventh.  Cam Cassady grounded into a double play, but it allowed Will Decker to score on the play.  Gavin Pellitteri followed with an RBI triple, plating Lucas Nowlin for the Maroons fifth run.  However, that would be the final run of the game as the Maroons fell 9-5 to the Yellow Jackets.
 
The Maroons outhit Randolph-Macon in the contest 16-7.  Kevin Oakey and Gavin Pellitteri led the Maroons with three hits each while, Cam Cassady, Devin Cassity and Will Black each tallied two.  Danny Creel finished with two RBIs while Cam Cassady scored two runs.  Seth Bradley was tabbed with the loss in the game, giving up five runs in the fourth inning.
 
Seven different Yellow Jackets tallied one hit each.  Travis Lodge and Bryan Miltenberger led the team with two runs each while Nicholas Maiolo led the squad with three RBIs.  Daniel Byrd picked up the win after six innings of work, striking out three batters.
 
In the second game, the Yellow Jackets put up 10 runs over the first four innings, taking a 10-0 lead over the Maroons.  Danny Creel started the fifth inning, reaching base off on an error.  With two outs in the inning, Jacob Clifton hit an RBI triple, his third of the season, scoring Creel on the play.  However, that would be the Maroons lone run of the game.  The Yellow Jackets went on to score 10 more runs including a seven run eighth inning.  Roanoke fell to Randolph-Macon 20-1 in the second game.
 
Jacob Clifton led the Maroons with two of the team's nine hits in the game.  Roanoke had seven other players with one hit each.  Clifton also had the team's lone RBI.  Harrison Richards (1-3) was tabbed with the loss after giving up seven runs off eight hits.  He struck out two batters in 1.2 innings of work.
 
Travis Lodge led the Yellow Jackets, going 4-6 in the second game, while nine other players on the team had multi hit games.  Nicholas Maiolo led the team with four RBIs, as well as scoring three runs in the game.  Jamie Hendrick (5-1) pitched five innings for the win, giving up just one run off six hits, while striking out four batters.
 
The Maroons return to action on Tuesday as they travel to take on Greensboro College.  That game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM first pitch.
