Roanoke Baseball Splits with Bridgewater on Saturday
BRIDGEWATER - The Roanoke College baseball team split a pair of contests with Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon, winning game one 10-2, but falling in the second game, 12-2.  The Maroons now have a record of 12-16; 5-11 in the ODAC, while the Eagles sit with a mark of 24-8 overall and 12-4 in ODAC play.

The Maroons jumped on the Eagles early in the first game, putting up four runs in the first inning.  With the bases loaded, Will Decker hit an RBI single moving Devin Cassity home from third base, scoring the first run of the game.  The very next batter, Cam Cassady hit a three RBI triple, scoring Jacob Clifton, Will Black and Will Decker.  The Eagles put up one run in the bottom of the third, but Roanoke responded with two runs in the top of the fifth.  During the inning, Jacob Clifton hit an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Will Black.

Each team scored one run in the sixth inning, with Roanoke's run coming from Lucas Nowlin scoring a Will Black RBI single.  The Maroons put up their three final runs in the top of the eighth inning.  The scoring started with a two RBI double from Will Black.  Roanoke's final run was scored by Black after an RBI sacrifice fly by Will Decker.  Roanoke held off Bridgewater in the final inning for the 10-2 victory.

Roanoke was led in hitting by Will Black and Jacob Clifton who had three hits in the game.  Devin Cassity and Will Black each scored three runs, while Black and Cam Cassady each tallied three RBIs.  Cam Holshouser pitched the complete game victory, giving up two runs off six hits while striking out two batters.

Nick Fulk led the Eagles in hitting with two hits in the first game.  Derrik Walling and Hunter Hensley scored one run each, while Bryan Sanderson and Zach Hynes finished with one RBI each.  Corey Armentrout was tabbed with the loss, giving up seven runs over 5.2 innings pitched, while striking out seven batters.

Bridgewater turned the tides in the second game, scoring nine runs in the first five innings of play.  Roanoke's first run of the game came at the top of the seventh as Gavin Pellitteri reached on a fielder's choice, bringing home Boonewell Hagy on the play. Bridgewater scored one more in the bottom of the seventh as Sanderson hit an RBI single up the middle, plating Fitzgerald.  Roanoke tallied its final run in the top of the ninth, when Drew Mikula also reached on a fielder's choice, which moved Nick Sburlati home.  Roanoke fell in the second game, 10-2.

Seven different Maroons tallied one hit each, while Boonewell Hagy and Nick Sburlati scored one run each.  Jacob McMillan was tabbed with the loss, giving up six runs in three innings pitched.  Chad Hill pitched the final three innings, striking out six batters.
Bryan Sanderson led the Eagles in the second game, hitting 4-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.  Kyle Henshaw earned the win on the mound in the game, pitching seven innings, giving up one run and striking out five.

The Maroons are back in action on Sunday, April 13th as they host Lynchburg College for one ODAC contest.  That game is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
