Maroons Roll in Final Non-Conference Game Of The Season, 20-4 over SVU
SALEM - The Roanoke College Baseball team rolled it its final non-conference game of the season, defeating Southern Virginia University, 20-4 on Thursday night.  The Maroons enter the final games of the regular season with a record of 15-16, while the Knights sit with a mark of 5-23.
 
After Southern Virginia opened the first inning with two runs, Roanoke went on to score multiple runs in six of the eight innings the Maroons batted.  Roanoke's highest scoring inning came in the fourth, where they went on to score five runs.  The scoring started in the fourth as Jacob Clifton first scored on a passed ball to tally the Maroons eighth run of the game. 
 
Kevin Oakey followed with an RBI single to right field, plating Will Decker.  Gavin Pellitteri came up two batters later to hit a two RBI single to left field with the bases loaded, scoring Oakey and Cam Cassady.  Danny Creel added an RBI double to left, bringing around Lucas Nowlin.  After four innings, Roanoke led 12-0.
 
Roanoke finished with nine multi-base hits, including three home runs.  Will Decker had a solo home run in the fifth inning.  Jacob Clifton had a two RBI home run in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Drew Mikula on the play.  Boonewell Hagy hit a two RBI home run over the scoreboard in left field in the bottom of the seventh.  A few batters later, Nick Sburlati hit an RBI double to left center field, plating Clifton and scoring the team's 20th run of the game.
 
Jacob Clifotn led the team in hitting, going 4-6 on the day with four RBIs and three runs scored.  Also scoring three runs was Will Decker, who went 2-4 on the day.  Will Black, Cam Cassady, Kevin Oakey and Lucas Nowlin all finished with two runs scored on the night.  Zach Hamilton earned the win, giving up four runs off five hits in five innings pitched.
 
The Knights were led in hitting by Ryan Gabriel, who went 2-4, picking up two of the team's six hits.   CJ Andrus, finished with two RBIs, while Gabriel scored two runs.  Mitch Mantle was tabbed with the loss, giving up seven runs off five hits, in two innings pitched.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, April 19th as they play host to Eastern Mennonite University in ODAC action.  The double-header is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
