Maroons Top Pacers 3-2 on Tuesday
SALEM - The Roanoke College baseball team defeated William Peace on Tuesday evening, 3-2 at Lewis-Gale Field in non-conference play. The Maroons are now 6-6 on the season, while the Pacers are 1-19.

The Maroons are currently on a three game win streak, having defeated Johnson University in double-header action on Saturday.

Roanoke scored its first run in the bottom of the first inning. Brian Kluge reached first after getting hit by a pitch. He then proceeded to steal second, advance to third on a ground out, then was finally brought home by an RBI single by Will Decker. Defensively, Roanoke had a strong first three innings. Seth Bradley faced only nine batters in the initial three frames, with only one ball making it to the outfield.

The Maroons scored again in the bottom of the third. Dan Brodeur led off with a single to left field. With one out, Kluge hit a triple to right field, bringing around Brodeur to score. After three innings, Roanoke led 2-0. William Peace started to battle back in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Trey Hathaway hit a single through the left side, scoring Trevor Nanney. Greg Chauvin came up next and hit into a double play, but Nick Cole was able to make his way home and score the Pacers second run of the game. After five, the game was tied at 2-2.

In the bottom of the eighth, Roanoke would break the tie. Will Black reached first on an error, then followed up by stealing second. Brian Kluge hit a single through the right side, picking up his second RBI and plating Black. The Maroons were able to hold off the Pacers in the final half inning to pick up the 3-2 win on Tuesday.

Roanoke was led by Brian Kluge, who went 2-3 with one run scored and two RBIs. Also getting hits on Tuesday were Will Decker, Anthony Teixeira, and Dan Brodeur with one hit each. Decker had the Maroons' third RBI after Kluge's two. Chad Hill picked up the win in the game, pitching two innings, striking out one.

The Pacers were led by Trevor Nanney who tallied two hits on Tuesday. Trey Hathaway had the team's lone RBI, knocking in one run. Chase Roupp was tabbed with the loss, giving up three runs off five hits, striking out five.

The Maroons return to action on March 25th as they travel to take on Emory & Henry. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start.
