Baseball Tops Emory & Henry 11-3 on Wednesday
EMORY - The Roanoke College baseball team defeated Emory & Henry in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening, picking up the 11-3 win. The Maroons now have a record of 7-6, 3-3 in the ODAC, while the Wasps are 3-17, 1-8 in ODAC play.

With the win, Roanoke moves above .500 for the first time this season with their 7-6 record. The Maroons are also .500 in ODAC play, and move into a tie for fifth in the ODAC.

Roanoke opened the contest scoring one run in the first inning. Will Decker grounded out to the pitcher, but It allowed Will Black to score from third, taking an early 1-0 lead. The Maroons put up three more runs in the top of the third. Decker hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field, bringing around Will Black for a second time. Clark Crutchfield later hit a single to left center field, plating Craig Kiley and Brian Kluge for a 4-0 lead.

The Wasps started to battle back in the bottom of the third inning. Jordan Woullard hit a sacrifice bunt with two runners on, as Matthew Whisnant made his way home on the play, cutting the deficit to three, 3-1. Brandon Lineberry later hit a single to left center field, picking up an RBI as Josh Macek crossed the plate. After three, Roanoke still led 4-2.

After three scoreless innings, Roanoke put another run on the board in the top of the seventh. With two runners on, Decker reached on an error, while Kluge took advantage of the error to score Roanoke's fifth run. E&H's Bransen Christopher hit a sacrifice fly ball to center in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Macek for a second time, as Emory & Henry now trailed by two, 5-3.

Roanoke's biggest inning was in the top of the eighth. With the bases loaded, Will Black took a walk, bringing around Cal Hodgert. Brian Kluge then came up and hit a single up the middle, which plated Anthony Teixeira. Craig Kiley hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field, which brought home Devin Cassity for the third run of the inning. Black later came around to score at home after a heads up play on a wild pitch. The final run of the inning came Kluge scored on a passed ball, plating the Maroons' fifth run of the inning as Roanonke led 10-3 after eight innings. Roanoke scored one more in the top of the ninth as Black hit an RBI single that scored Cal Hodgert. The Maroons picked up the ODAC victory with the 11-3 win against Emory & Henry.

The Maroons were led in hitting by Brian Kluge, who went 4-6 at the plate, scoring three runs with one RBI. Will Black followed hitting .600 (3-5), with two RBIs and three runs scored. Will Decker and Clark Crutchfield also finished the game with two RBIs. Kluge also finished the game with one stolen base. Cameron Holshouser picked up the win after pitching 6.1 innings, giving up three runs off eight hits but striking out seven. Austin Gregory came in to pitch the remaining innings, giving up no hits and striking out three.

The Wasps were led by Josh Macek, who hit 2-5, scoring two runs. Jordan Woullard, Bransen Christopher and Brandon Lineberry finished the game with one RBI each. Matthew McInaw was tabbed with the loss, giving up four runs off of eight hits.

The Maroons return to action on Thursday, March 26th as they play host to Greensboro College at Lewis-Gale Field. That contest is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start.
