Maroons Blank Greensboro in Rain-Shortened Game
SALEM - The Roanoke College baseball team blanked Greensboro College 14-0 in a rain-shortened game that ended in the bottom of the eighth inning. Roanoke now has a record of 8-6, while the Pride are 8-14 on the season.

The Maroons are currently on a five game win streak, dating back to March 21st. The Maroons have won three of those games by scoring 10 or more runs, including a high of 21 against Johnson University on the 21st. Roanoke has outscored their opponents by a mark of 57-12 over that span.

Roanoke jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Brian Kluge hit a single to center field, then stole second base. Will Decker followed with a single to left center field, knocking in Kluge for the 1-0 advantage.

In the fourth inning, Roanoke piled three more runs on the board. With one out, Cal Hodgert a double down the left field line. Anthony Teixeira followed with a double to left center field that brought around Hodgert to score. Danny Creel came up next to hit a single to left, moving Teixeira to third. Next up was Devin Cassity who singled to first, scoring Teixeira. Will Black reached on an error that loaded the bases, followed by Kluge who hit a single to left field, scoring the Maroons fourth run in Danny Creel.

Roanoke plated five more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Danny Creel hit a double to left field, scoring Hodgert to put the Maroons ahead 5-0. Two batters later, Will Black hit a triple to left field, bringing home Creel and Teixeira. After a series of walks to load the bases, Craig Kiley hit a double to left field, scoring Kluge and Black for a 9-0 advantage after five innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, Drew Mikula led off with an error by the second baseman. Kluge came up next to double to right center field, bringing home Mikula on the play. With a double down the left field line, Joe Larimer knocked in Kluge for the 11th run of the game for Roanoke. The Maroons benefited from another error as Hodgert reached on an infield error, allowing Larimer to cross the plate. After seven, Roanoke led 12-0. Roanoke scored another two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Ross Strickland reached base by being hit by a pitched, then advanced all the way home on three wild pitches. Drew Mikula walked and made his way to second on one of the wild pitches, then Kluge hit a double to left field to score Mikula. With a runner on the base path, the game was called in the bottom of the eighth due to increasing rain.

Brian Kluge led the Maroons in hitting, going 4-5 on the day with three RBIs and three runs scored. He also finished with two stolen bases. Craig Kiley, Cal Hodgert and Danny Creel all finished with two hits. Drew Mikula, Hodgert, Anthony Teixeira and Creel all tallied two runs scored. Jack Kolls picked up the win, pitching 2.0 innings. Craig Kiley got the start and pitched three innings with four strikeouts.

Roanoke gave up just five hits against Greensboro. Cody York led the team, going 2-3 on the day. Zach Neumeister, Andrew Toney and Kristopher Taveras all had one hit each. Mitch Choros was tabbed with the loss, giving up four runs off eight hits.

Roanoke returns to action on Saturday, March 28th as they travel to take on Washington and Lee in Lexington, VA. That doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
