Roanoke Baseball Sweeps ODAC Players of the Week Honors
FOREST - The Roanoke College baseball team swept the ODAC Player and Pitcher of the Week awards on Monday. Will Black was named Player of the Week, while John Ruhlman earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Ruhlman is the first Maroon pitcher to earn this accolade since Austin Gregory on April 22, 2013. Black earns Player of the Week honors for the Maroons for the first time since Mark Manthe got the nod on February 27, 2012.

Ruhlman, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, Va., worked the longest outing of his collegiate career as the Maroons shutout Washington and Lee, 6-0, in game one of a doubleheader sweep. Ruhlman went eight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits without a walk. The southpaw struck out 11 batters, including five of the first six Generals he faced. He fanned the side in the first inning. He was unscathed the first time thru W&L's lineup before a lead-off double in the fourth inning. Ruhlman is now 2-1 on the season with a 4.43 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 20.1 innings of work.

Black, a junior from Richmond, Va., led the Maroons to a 5-0 week that included a doubleheader sweep of Washington and Lee, the first Maroons' sweep of the Generals since the two schools began playing regular conference doubleheaders in 2007. Black went 10-for-21 overall with three doubles, a triple, five RBI and eight runs scored. He also stole three bases, including a pair with two hits in a 6-3 game two win over W&L. He went 6-for-9 in the two contests against the Generals, adding two doubles in game one. Black went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in an 11-3 win over E&H. Black added three walks on the week to finish with a .476/.542/.714 slash line. He currently leads the ODAC in doubles (8) and slugging (.652), is second with a .435 batting average, and third with a .491 on-base percentage.

The Maroons return to action on March 31st as they host Emory & Henry at Lewis-Gail Field. The ODAC contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
