Baseball Wins Eighth in a Row, Defeats Emory & Henry 10-1
SALEM- The Roanoke College baseball team won its eighth straight game on Tuesday, defeating Emory & Henry 10-1 at Lewis Gale Field in ODAC play. The Maroons now have a record of 11-6, 6-3 in the ODAC, while the Wasps are 3-22, 1-13 in conference action.

Roanoke has won eight straight games, dating back to March 21st to a pair of wins over Johnson University. During this eight game win streak, Roanoke is outscoring its opponents 79-16, including four games with 10 runs or more, as well as seven games holding its opponent to three runs or less. Eight consecutive wins is a program record for longest win streak in the program's 14 year history.

Roanoke scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Craig Kiley, Clark Crutchfield and Cal Hodgert each hit consecutive singles to load the bases. Kiley scored on a wild pitch to give Roanoke a 1-0 advantage after the first inning. Emory & Henry tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning. Matthew Whisnant led off with a single to left field, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, then came home on an infield ground out.

In the bottom of the fifth, Roanoke began to widen the lead. Will Black led off with a bunt to reach first base. Black was moved around the bases from a single by Brian Kluge and a sacrifice fly ball by Kiley. He made his way home on a wild pitch, taking a 2-1 lead for the Maroons. After the run, Cruthfield reached first on a throwing error, which moved Kluge to third base. Hodgert came up next and hit a sacrifice fly ball to bring home Kluge and build a two run, 3-1 lead.

Roanoke scored two more in the bottom of the sixth. Brian Kluge reached on an error, allowing Collier Donald to come home for the fourth run of the game. Two batters later, Devin Cassity advanced on a wild pitch, taking a four run, 5-1 lead.

The bottom of the eighth was the highest scoring inning for the Maroons. After getting hit by a pitch and stealing a base, Kluge advanced home on a wild pitch, scoring the inning's first run. Two batters later, Cal Hodgert hit a single to left, letting Kiley score from third, taking a 7-1 lead. The next batter, Will Decker, also hit a single to right, picking up an RBI as Crutchfield scored from second. Collier Donald huge shot to the left field wall, making a triple out of it and picked up two RBIs on runs from Hodgert and Decker. Roanoke picked up the win at 9:15 as the Maroons led by nine runs for a 10-1 victory.

Brian Kluge and Cal Hodgert led the Maroons in hitting, going 3-4 on the day. Kluge and Craig Kiley each put up two runs on the board. Kiley and Crutchfield each finished the game with two hits, and Hodgert and Collier Donald led the team in RBIs with two apiece. Cameron Holshouser earned the win pitching six innings and striking out five batters.

The Wasps were led in hitting by Carson Bryant who had two of the team's five hits on the evening. Other hits came from Josh Macek, Bransen Christopher and Matthew Whisnant. Dakota Grizzel was tabbed with the loss, giving up five runs off of nine hits in 5.1 innings pitched.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, April 1st, as they travel to take on Ferrum College. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM first pitch.
