Baseball Falls to Ferrum 5-4 in 11 Innings
FERRUM - Roanoke and Ferrum College played late into the evening as the Maroons fell to the Panthers 4-3 in 11 innings on Wednesday. The Maroons are now 11-7 on the season, while the Panthers are 17-11.

The loss to Ferrum puts an end to Roanoke's eight game win-streak, the longest in school history. Since March 21st, Roanoke had outscored its opponents 79-16, which included seven games holding its opponents to three runs or less.

Ferrum opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Kyle Hall hit a one out triple to center field. On a wild pitch, Kyle Hall made his way home and put the first run up on the board for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Nathan Reynolds led off the frame with a solo home run, putting the Panthers ahead by two, 2-0.

In the top of the third, Roanoke scored its first run of the game. Will Black started off with a double to center field. Brian Kluge followed with a single to center, moving Black to third. Craig Kiley walked to load the bases. On a wild pitch, all three runners advanced a base, with Black crossing the plate, cutting the deficit to one, 2-1. The Maroons continued to trail by one through the sixth inning. It was the top of the seventh when the Maroons tied the game. Brian Kluge hit an RBI single to center field, bringing home Devin Cassity as the tying run. With two runners on and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Roanoke made a great double play to end the inning and send the game to extras.

With one out, Devin Cassity hit a ground out to shortstop, which allowed Anthony Teixeira to score taking a 3-2 lead in the 11th inning. Will Black followed with an RBI double to center, plating Collier Donald for a two run, 4-2 lead. With one out in the bottom of the 11th, Adam Marston hit an RBI single to score Ty Comer, cutting the Roanoke lead to one, 4-3. With two runners on, Matt Reynolds hit a single to left center field, scoring Adam Marston on an error and Lane Deaver crossed the plate as well, giving the Panthers a 5-4 victory.

Roanoke was led in hitting by Will Black, going 3-5 on the evening, with one run scored and one RBI. Brian Kluge went 2-5 with one RBI. Diego Meneses, Clark Crutchfield and Anthony Teixeira all finished with one hit each. Black and Crutchfield also finished with one stolen base. Austin Gregory was tabbed with the loss, giving up three runs off five hits.

Nathan Reynolds led the Panthers in hitting with two hits on the night. Eight other Ferrum players tallied one hit apiece. Five different Panthers crossed the plate, while Matt Reynolds finished with three RBIs. Gray Harris earned the win in two innings, giving up two runs off two hits, striking out one.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, April 4th as they play host to Randolph-Macon for senior day. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
