Baseball Drops Two to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday
VIRGINIA BEACH - The Roanoke College baseball team dropped two games to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, falling 5-1 and 6-10. The Maroons now have a record of 13-10, 8-6 in the ODAC, while the Marlins are 14-9, 13-4 in ODAC play.

In the first game of the day, the Marlins opened the scoring with a two run home run by C.J. Lindsay over the left field wall. After two, the Marlins led 2-0. Roanoke went scoreless until the top of the sixth inning, when Cal Hodgert answered with a solo home run over the left field wall, cutting the Maroons deficit to one run, 2-1 after six.

However, the Marlins responded in the bottom of the inning. With the bases loaded, Lindsay hit into a double play, which advanced Zach Bach to third and Taylor Erby across the plate. Bach would then score on a wild pitch, clearing the bases. Josh Mason followed up with a home run to center field, as the Marlins took a 5-1 advantage. That lead would hold through the remainder of the contest as Roanoke fell 5-1 in game one.

The Maroons had five hits in the first game, as Brian Kluge, Will Decker, Cal Hodgert, Collier Donald and Devin Cassity tallied one apiece. Cassity also had the team's lone stolen base in the contest. John Ruhlman was tabbed with the loss, pitching six innings, giving up five runs while striking out seven batters.

The Marlins had six hits in the first game, led by Zach Bach, who went 2-4 with one run scored. Lindsay finished with three RBIs and one run scored. Sean Greiser picked up in the first game, giving up one run off three hits while striking out 12 batters.

The Marlins took the bottom of the first with two runs scored off of RBI hits from Bach and Jordan Miller, leading 2-1 after one inning. The Marlins scored again in the bottom of the second on an error, then again in the third as Miller hit a home run to left field. After three, Va. Wesleyan led 4-1.

Roanoke put up runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Joe Larimer hit a sacrifice fly ball in the top of the fourth, bringing home Hodgert and the team's second run. Brian Kluge hit into a ground out in the top of the fifth, which brought around Cassity and got the Maroons within one, 4-3. The Marlins created separation again in the fifth, as Erby hit a triple to center field, scoring Murray. They also scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and three more in the seventh for a 10-3 lead.

The Maroons pushed in the eighth. With the bases loaded, Connor Lilley hit an RBI single to left field, advancing all runners and scoring Danny Creel. Sean Guida would then reach first on an error, allowing Ross Strickland and Lucas Nowlin to score. However, those would be the final runs of the game, as the Maroons fell 10-6.

Roanoke was led in hitting by Lucas Nowlin, who went 3-4 with one run scored. Sean Guida led the team with two RBIs, while Black, Kiley and Hodgert had two hits each. Diego Meneses was tabbed with the loss, giving up three runs off four hits with two strikeouts.
