Baseball Battles In Two Losses to EMU on Sunday
HARRISONBURG - The Roanoke College baseball team lost a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference games on Sunday, 5-2 and 11-9 to Eastern Mennonite. The Maroons now have a record of 13-12, 8-8 in ODAC play, while the Royals are 15-14, 9-9 in the ODAC.

After the weekend, the Maroons now have an 8-8 record in conference play, which currently seats them fifth in the standings. The top six teams in the ODAC will move on to the conference tournament, which will begin on April 23rd. The Maroons have just four conference games remaining, with a home game against Guilford on Tuesday and an away contest against Lynchburg on Thursday. The Maroons will round out the season against Bridgewater College on Saturday, a team who received votes in the latest d3baseball.com poll.

Roanoke jumped out to an early lead in the first game of the day, Craig Kiley hit a two run home run, bringing home Brian Kluge and putting up a 2-0 advantage. The Royals scored four runs in the bottom of the first, including a two RBI single from Kyle Matthews and an RBI single from Kyle Armstrong. After one, the Maroons trailed 4-2. EMU's Armstrong had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the fourth, plating Patrick love to extend the lead to three, 5-2, a score that held through the remainder of the contest.

Brian Kluge and Anthony Teixeira led the Maroons in hitting in the first game, going 2-4 on the day. Craig Kiley had both of Roanoke's two RBIs, while Kluge and Devin Cassity tallied one stolen base apiece. Cameron Holshouser was tabbed with the loss, giving up four runs off three hits.

The Royals were led by four players who tallied two hits apiece. Kyle Armstrong and Kyle Matthews each finished with two RBIs each. Jake Brown picked up the win with seven innings pitched, while Austin Marzullo was credited with the save.

The second contest turned out to be a wild game. Eastern Mennonite scored five runs in the first two innings, jumping out to the 5-0 lead. In the top of the third, the bats got hot for the Maroons. Will Black hit an RBI single, scoring Danny Creel. Craig Kiley followed with an RBI single down the left field line to score Gavin Pellitteri. Cal Hodgert finished the inning off with a three RBI home run to left field, tying the game at 5-5. Eastern Mennonite reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring on an error.

In the top of the fourth, Kluge doubled to right center field, plating Pellitteri to tie the game. Kiley then hit an RBI single, scoring Kluge and taking a 7-6 lead. Roanoke extended the lead in the top of the fifth, Teixeira reached on a fielding error, allowing Will Decker to score. After the top of five, Roanoke led 8-6. However, the Royals scored five runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh combined, taking a 11-8 lead. In the top of the eighth, Brian Kluge hit an RBI double to center field, scoring Will Black. However, that was the final run of the game, as the Maroons fell, 11-9 in game two.

Five Maroons finished with two hits each, while Will Black and Gavin Pellitteri had two runs each. Cal Hodgert led the team with three RBIs, with Kluge and Kiley following with two RBIs apiece. Chad Hill was tabbed with the loss, pitching five innings, while striking out three batters.

Justin Rodriguez led the Royals, going 3-4 in the game, scoring one run with four RBIs. Patrick Love had two RBIs and Brandon Carroll finished with three runs scored. Aaron Weaver earned the win with two innings pitched.

The Maroons return to action Tuesday, April 14th as they host Guilford College. That contest is slated for a 7:00 PM start.
