Baseball Tops Lynchburg in Single Game On Thursday
LYNCHBURG - The Roanoke College baseball team won its second game in two days, defeating Lynchburg College 4-2 on Thursday. The Maroons now have a record of 15-12, 10-8 in the ODAC, while the Hornets are 13-19, 8-9 in ODAC play.

The Maroons are still on the hunt for their second ODAC Tournament appearance in three years. They are currently sitting fifth in the ODAC with their record of 10-8, and the top six teams advance to the ODAC Tournament. Roanoke also defeated Lynchburg for the second time this season, having already defeated the Hornets on March 17th at Lewis-Gale Field with a 9-5 victory.

The Maroons started off the scoring early in the first inning. Will Black led off with a double up the middle. Brian Kluge followed by reaching on a fielding error, moving Black to third. With one out, Will Decker hit a single through the right side, plating black on the play. Cal Hodgert kept the runs coming with a single through the left side, bringing around Kluge to score. After the top of the inning, Roanoke led 2-0. Lynchburg's Luke Rodgers hit an RBI single to score Joe Rogers, cutting Roanoke's lead in half, 2-1.

The Hornets scored another run in the bottom of the second, as Wil Parsons hit an RBI single to score Will Hylton, tying the game at 2-2. However, those would be the final runs for Lynchburg in the game. Clark Crutchfield hit an RBI double to score the go ahead run, as Hodgert crossed the plate to take a 3-2 lead. In the top of the fifth, Crutchfield hit an RBI single, this time scoring Will Decker to build a 4-2 lead. That two run advantage held through the remainder of the contest, as the Maroons won 4-2.

The Maroons were led in hitting by Will Decker, who went 4-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Will Black, Cal Hodgert and Clark Crutchfield all finished with two hits. Crutchfield also led the team in RBIs with two, while Hodgert also had one. Chad Hill (2-0) earned the win with five innings pitched, striking out two batters.

The Hornets finished with eight hits, led by Luke Rodgers with two. Wil Parsons and Rodgers each tallied one RBI apiece. David Goulding was tabbed with the loss, giving up four runs off 12 hits in 8.1 innings pitched. He also struck out three batters.

The Maroons will be back in action at home on Saturday, April 18th as they play host to Bridgewater College at 12:00 PM to start a doubleheader. Please note the contest will be played at Kiwanis Field instead of Lewis-Gale Field.
