Baseball Rallies Late, Falls to Virginia Wesleyan 3-2 on Saturday
LYNCHBURG - The Roanoke College baseball team battled to the final inning, but fell in their third game of the 2015 ODAC Baseball Championships, 3-2 to Virginia Wesleyan. The Maroons close the season with a record of 17-15, while the Marlins advanced to play #3 seed Randolph-Macon, a game that is currently suspended to Sunday.

2015 was another outstanding season for the Roanoke College baseball program.The Maroons closed the season with a 17-15 record, the first winning season in program history. The 17 wins marks the second highest run total in the program's existence. The Maroons have achieved the three highest run totals in the last three seasons, starting in 2013, Matt McGuire's first year at the helm of the program. The Maroons reached the ODAC Tournament for the third time ever, and the second time in two years. The 11 ODAC wins this season are also the most ever by a Maroon program. During the season the Maroons placed five players on the All-ODAC teams, a program high. Also, Roanoke had two players earn ODAC Player of the Week honors as Will Black and John Ruhlman earned the weekly nod.

Virginia Wesleyan opened up the scoring in the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs, the Marlins had runners on first and third. Matt Murray hit an RBI double to left center field, plating both Justin Erby and Josh Mason for a 2-0 lead. Virginia Wesleyan scored another run in the bottom of the sixth. Jordan Miller hit a double with one out to reach second. C.J. Lindsay came up next with an RBI single to take a three run lead.

The Maroons rallied in the ninth. Will Black led off with a single up the middle. Brian Kluge followed with a double down the left field line, bringing home Will Black. Up next, Cal Hodgert hit a single up the middle, placing Kluge on third. With no outs and two runners on, Will Decker lined out to right field with a sacrifice fly ball as Brian Kluge scored the Maroons first run. However, Cal Hodgert was thrown out on the play, as the Maroons now had two outs. The Maroons could not make up the tying run in the inning, falling 3-2 in the ODAC Tournament.

Roanoke finished the game with five hits, led by Cal Hodgert who went 2-4 on the day. Will Black, Brian Kluge and Craig Kiley each finished with one hit in the game. Black and Kluge also accounted for one run each for the Maroons. Harrison Richards was tabbed with the loss, giving up three runs off five hits, while striking out four. Chad Hill came in to relieve for 2.1 innings, giving up two hits, while striking out three.

The Marlins were led in hitting by Matt Murray, who went 204 on the day. Justin Erby, Jordan Miller and Josh Mason each scored one run in the game. Murray led all player with two RBIs. Alex Tucci picked up the win with two runs off four hits, while striking out six. Riley Koonce earned the save with one inning of work.
