Black and Kluge named to VaSID All-State Teams
Will Black and Brian Kluge were both named Second-Team VaSID College Division All-State announced Friday afternoon. They are just the third and fourth Maroons to be named to any VaSID Baseball All-State Team. Jacob Clifton '13 was tabbed with first-team honors last spring and Alan Moore '10 was the first Maroon to be named to any VaSID Baseball All-State team in 2007. This will mark the first year where multiple Maroons have received this honor.

Will Black - Catcher - Richmond, VA

The sophomore has already received First Team All-ODAC Honors that were announced in April and was also placed on the All-ODAC Third Team in 2014. Black had also received ODAC Player of the Week honors on March 30th, after a 10-21 week with three doubles, a triple, five RBIs and eight runs scored. He collected 13 doubles, which led the ODAC and notched one triple as well. He had 16 RBIs to go along with his 39 hits and he also had 28 runs. He is also known as one of the best defensive players in the ODAC, which complimented his impressive offensive numbers from this season.

As a catcher, he led the league in runners caught stealing by throwing out 12 runners attempting to steal. He has already etched his mark in the Roanoke record books for this category, as he is the career record holder with 29 total runners caught stealing in only two seasons. Black has another rare ability for a catcher and that is to steal bases. He ranked fourth in the ODAC this year in stolen bases with 10, and he also ranked in the top-10 in the ODAC in batting average (6th - .394), on base percentage (9th - .442) and slugging percentage (10th - .545)

Brian Kluge - Outfield - Roanoke, VA

Kluge, the senior outfielder who has fought through injuries the past couple of years, was awarded at the Roanoke College Senior Student-Athlete Awards Banquet with the Michael C. Murphy Award. This award is given to an athlete who has come back from serious injury, only to still succeed on the field and in the classroom. He was also named Third Team All-ODAC this past season and also collected First Team All-ODAC honors in 2012 after coming back from two torn ACLs that left him sidelined for the 2014 season.

He still missed the beginning of the 2015 season as a result of his rehab, but came back strong and was a huge part of the Maroons offense. In the regular season, he led the ODAC in stolen bases with 13 and would have finished third in the conference in batting average with .407 if he had qualified for the minimum amount of plate appearances. He also collected five doubles and one triple, with 14 RBIs on the year. Kluge also had an OBP of .473 and slugged .494 for the season. For exceptional play in the ODAC Tournament, he was the first Maroons to be named the ODAC All-Tournament Team. He finishes his career with the Maroons third all-time in stolen bases (25), fifth in runs scored (85) and doubles (28) and seventh in batting average (.344). He also ranks in the top-10 all time at Roanoke in on base percentage, hits and at-bats.
