The Lead: Roanoke used three big innings to get past Penn State-Behrend and capture the weekend series.

How it Happened:
  • Behrend jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after a single by David Boehme drove in John Hlavinka.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the third, Collier Donald walked and Sean Guida reached on an error that advanced runners to second and third. After Will Black walked to load the bases Drew Mikula hit a two-RBI single in front of the left fielder giving RC the 2-1 edge.
  • Roanoke added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The scoring was started that inning after Dean Hermanson hit into a double play, but Eli Sumpter was still able to score.
  • Donald singled in the next at bat to score Scott Ellis. Donald put himself in scoring position by stealing second and Guida was able to plate him after hitting a single to left field giving Roanoke a 5-1 lead.
  • Behrend would score one more run in the top of the sixth inning, but Roanoke responded with three more runs of its own in the bottom of that inning.
  • After three consecutive singles by Hermanson, Donald, and Guida, Will Black hit a double to the left field warning track to score Hermanson and Donald. Roanoke would scratch across one more run that inning after Guida scored on a double play.
  • Offensively, Mikula collected three RBI for RC and Black added two. Sumpter went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and Donald was 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored. Guida also added two hits for Roanoke.
  • On the mound, Rawlings Cumbea started the game and threw four innings while only giving up one run. Kenny Mackovic improved to 3-0 this year after throwing two innings and giving up one unearned run.
