Baseball falls to No. 6 Randolph-Macon on Saturday
The Basics

Location: Estes Park - Ashland, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke fell to No.6 Randolph-Macon 16-9 in a slugfest that saw a combined 28 hits and 25 runs.

How it Happened:
  • Randolph-Macon struck first in the bottom of the first inning after they pushed across seven runs off of six htis and one RC error.
  • In the top of the sixth, Roanoke was able to score one run after Sean Guida hit an RBI single to right field scoring Eli Sumpter.
  • The Yellow Jackets rallied in the next three innings to score four in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth.
  • The Maroons started to fight back in the top of the ninth reeling off eight runs off of five hits. Scott Ellis got the action started with a lead-off triple and was drove in by Connor Lilley in the next at bat who grounded out to the shortstop.
  • In the next at bat, Joe Larimer belted a solo home run to left field. Anthony Teixeira reached first base with a walk, Dean Hermanson singled and Lucas Nowlin also walked to load the bases for RC.
  • With the bases loaded, Cody Shell picked up his first career hit as a Maroon with a two-RBI double down the left field line to score Teixeira and Hermanson. In the next two at bats, Dan Irwin and Drew Mikula both walked to load the bases again for Roanoke.
  • Ellis collected his second hit of the inning driving in Shell and soon after Lilley reached on a fielder's choice, but was still able to score Irwin from third base.
  • Roanoke was able to push across one more run, but its ninth inning rally fell short as they fell 16-9.
  • Will Black and Ellis each picked up two hits while Ellis also had one RBI. Lilley and Shell each collected two RBI for the Maroons.
  • For Randolph-Macon, Travis Lodge went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Nick Maiolo had four RBI for the Yellow Jackets.
  • James Walsh improved to 8-0 on the mound for R-MC after tossing six innings while only giving up one run and striking out two. Rawlings Cumbea was given the loss for Roanoke.
