The Basics - Game One
Score: Washington & Lee 10, Roanoke 1
Records: Roanoke 17-10 (6-4 ODAC), Washington & Lee 20-10 (9-4 ODAC)
Location: Salem Memorial Stadium - Salem, Va.

The Lead: Washington & Lee used a big five-run third inning to get past Roanoke 10-1.

How it Happened:
  • Roanoke was the first team to strike in the bottom of the first inning after a double by Will Decker drove in Will Black giving RC the 1-0 advantage.
  • In the top of the third inning, W&L used just two hits to push across five runs giving them the 5-1 lead.
  • The Generals would tack on one run in the sixth, three in the eighth and one more in the ninth to give them the 10-1 victory.
  • Ryan Weston led Washington & Lee offensively going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one double and one home run. On the mound for the Generals, Tom Concklin earned his sixth win of the year after throwing 8.1 innings.
  • For Roanoke, Anthony Teixeira picked up two hits on the afternoon. Kenny Mackovic threw five strong innings in relief for the Maroons only surrendering one run while striking out three.



The Basics - Game Two
Score: Washington & Lee 10, Roanoke 4
Records: Roanoke 17-11 (6-5 ODAC), Washington & Lee 20-9 (10-4 ODAC)

The Lead: Washington & Lee completed the sweep on Saturday after a seven-run rally in the seventh inning.

How it Happened:
  • Both teams were scoreless up until the top of the fourth inning when Washington & Lee scratched across two runs.
  • Roanoke responded in the bottom of the fifth inning after Eli Sumpter tagged up from third to score on a sacrifice fly hit by Sean Guida.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, Decker, Crutchfield and Will Black hit three consecutive singles to load the bases. Craig Kiley singled up the middle to score Decker and in the next at bat Sumpter hit into a fielder's choice to the shortstop, but an errant throw by the second basemen would score Crutchfield and Black giving RC the 4-2 lead.
  • The Generals responded in the top of the seventh pushing across seven runs off of four hits and one error. W&L would score one more run in the top of the eighth to make the score 10-4.
  • Offensively, Kiley went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and Crutchfield also collected two hits for the Maroons. For W&L, Matt Wasson went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs scored.
  • Tyler Murphy improved to 4-0 on the mound this year while Danny Devereux notched his eighth save of the year.
