The Lead: Guilford slips past Roanoke 5-2 despite 10 hits by the Maroons.

How it Happened:
  • Roanoke got the action started in the bottom of the fourth inning after Clark Crutchfield walked to start the inning. In the next at bat, Craig Kiley doubled down the right field line to put runners on second and third. Eli Sumpter grounded out to the short stop, but Crutchfield was able to score from third base giving RC the 1-0 early edge.
  • Guilford responded in the top of the fifth scoring two runs off of one hit while using small ball to advance runners.
  • The Quakers scratched across one more run in the top of the sixth inning after taking advantage of wild pitches giving them a 3-1 lead.
  • In the bottom of the sixth RC responded after Dan Brodeur hit a single to left center that scored Will Black who singled earlier in the inning cutting the Guilford lead to 3-2.
  • In the top of the eighth, Guilford pushed across two more runs off of two hits and one error by the Maroons giving them a 5-2 margin.
  • At the plate, Black went 2-for-4 for Roanoke while scoring one run. Will Decker, Sean Guida and Kiley each collected two hits for the Maroons.
  • Despite throwing eight inning and giving up four earned runs and striking out seven batters, Harrison Richards was given the loss on the mound. For Guilford, Darin Salter earned his first win of the year throwing seven innings while scattering nine hits and only allowing two runs.
