No. 6 Randolph-Macon Slips Past Roanoke 4-3
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 4, Roanoke 3
Records: Roanoke 20-15 (8-9 ODAC), Randolph-Macon 26-5-1 (12-5 ODAC)
Location: Estes Park - Ashland, Va.

The Lead: Randolph-Macon scratched across one run in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a one-run lead and get past Roanoke 4-3.

How it Happened:
  • In the top of the second inning, Craig Kiley singled to left field to get the action started for the Maroons. Clark Crutchfield walked in the next at bat and Eli Sumpter singled to load the bases for RC.
  • A Collier Donald RBI single to left field would score Kiley giving Roanoke an early 1-0 edge.
  • Randolph-Macon was able to scratch across one run each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings giving them a 3-1 advantage heading into the seventh inning.
  • In the top of the seventh, Sean Guida doubled to the left center field gap to score Donald putting Roanoke down just 3-2. Guida was later driven in by Anthony Teixeira who singled down the left field line to tie the score at 3-3.
  • In the bottom of the eighth inning, Randolph-Macon's Jeffrey Butler was able to work his way around the bases to third and later scored off of a wild pitch giving them the 4-3 outcome.
  • Will Black, Teixeira, Sumpter and Donald each collected two hits for Roanoke while Teixeira and Donald had one RBI each.
  • Travis Lodge led Randolph-Macon at the plate, going 3-for-3 with one double and two walks.
  • John Ruhlman earned a quality start on the mound for Roanoke throwing six innings while only giving up three runs and striking out four. Kiley was given the loss despite throwing two innings and only giving up one unearned run.
