The Lead: The Maroons improve to 6-2 in the ODAC after an offensive outburst that included 19 hits and six extra base hits en route to an 18 to 7 victory over ODAC opponent Guilford College.

How it Happened:
  • Guilford jumped on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead early in the game.
  • Roanoke would respond in the top of the third inning after a Craig Kiley doubled drove in Will Black to narrow the margin to 2-1
  • After Guilford extended its lead to 3-1 in its half of the third inning, Roanoke's Lucas Nowlin would lay down a sacrifice bunt to score Eli Sumpter in the top of the fourth to make the score 3-2.
  • The Maroons would add six runs in the top of the sixth inning that was started off with a lead-off single by Scott Ellis. Nowlin singled later in the inning to score Ellis and tie the score 3-3.
  • Sean Guida singled to center field driving in Sumpter who was hit by a pitch later in the inning. In the next at bat, Black flied out to left field, but Anthony Teixeira was able to tag up from third base and score.
  • Will Decker continued the inning with a double that scored Nowlin, and Clark Crutchfield singled up the middle to drive in Guida making the score 7-3. Decker would score the last run for Roanoke in that inning after Ellis' second single of the inning drove him in.
  • After the Quakers scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning making the score 8-4, the Maroons would have another big inning in the top of the seventh.
  • Nowlin started off the inning with a single and advanced to third base due to a throwing error on the play. Guida singled in the next at bat and scored later in the inning after a single by Kiley making the score 10-4.
  • Crutchfield doubled to right-center field to push across Black. In the next at bat, Ellis picked up his third single of the game driving in Kiley in the process. Sumpter collected the fourth-consecutive hit for Roanoke scoring Crutchfield and the Maroons picked up one more run later in the inning giving them the 13-4 advantage.
  • Guilford added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth, but RC would respond with five more of its own in the top of the ninth that included a grand slam by Nowlin making the score the eventual 18-7 outcome.
  • Offensively, every batter in Roanoke's lineup recorded at least one hit, one RBI and scored one run.
  • Nowlin was 3-for-5 at the plate with six RBI, three runs scored, one double and a home run. Ellis also added three hits and two RBI.
  • On the mound, Kenny Mackovic garnered his second win of the season after throwing two scoreless innings.
