Baseball Tops Ferrum 4-3 on Tuesday Night

The Lead: The Maroons held a 4-3 lead for the last three innings to help them get past Ferrum 4-3 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night to win six out of their last seven games.

How it Happened:
  • With one out in the top of the third inning, Will Black singled to right field to reach first base and later advanced to second due to an error to put himself in scoring position. Will Decker singled to center field to score Black from second base giving RC the 1-0 edge.
  • Ferrum would respond in the bottom half of the third, scoring three runs off of five hits to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead.
  • Sean Guida led off the top of the fifth inning with a bunt single and stole second base to put him in scoring position. Later in the inning Guida stole third base and after an errant throw from the catcher, Guida was able to score cutting the Ferrum lead to 3-2.
  • With one out in the top of the sixth, Anthony Teixeira walked and in the next at bat Collier Donald hit a double that was out of the center fielder's reach to score Teixeira from first base. Guida picked up his third hit of the game with an RBI double that would drive Donald in and give Roanoke the 4-3 lead.
  • Nick Raulin, Cameron Eck and Eli Sumpter were able to hold Ferrum scoreless in the last three innings to secure the win for RC.
  • Guida led Roanoke offensively going 4-for-5 at the plate with a double and one RBI. Black collected two hits for the Maroons while Decker and Donald each picked up one RBI.
  • On the mound, Michael Mares started for Roanoke throwing the first three innings. Chance Henry earned the win after throwing the next three innings while only giving up two hits and striking out two batters. Nick Raulin, Cameron Eck and Eli Sumpter each threw one of the next three innings while Sumpter picked up his third save of the year.
