The Lead: The Roanoke College baseball team hosted Southern Virginia University for a double header at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Game one would see the Maroons offense exploded for 16 runs as RC cruised to the seven inning win. Game two was a come from behind win for Roanoke as the home team got a pair of runs in the fourth followed by two more in the sixth for the 5-3 victory.

How it Happened:

  • After giving up a single to the first batter of the game, Evan Parks notched a pair of K's to get the Roanoke bats to the plate. In the bottom of the inning, RC loaded the bases before Will Smith scored on a Mason Staz RBI. Then Jack Marshall added two more with a single to center.
  • Roanoke would add two in the second and another in the third. In the bottom of the fourth, the Maroons would parley three hits and a trio of Knight miscues to post a 10-spot. The scoring was capped by a PK Cocolis, 2 RBI, single down the left field line.
  • Owen Ledford picked up the win after going two innings with six strikeouts as six Maroons took the hill during game one.
  • Marshall led the way with four RBI while Cocolis drove in three.

Game 2

Score: Roanoke 5 | Southern Virginia 3
Records: Maroons 3-2 | Knights 0-2
Location: Salem, Va.

How it Happened:

  • The Maroons would plate a run in the bottom of the first when Smith scored on a Staz single.
  • The Knights would take the lead in the top of the fourth when Roanoke issued a pair of walks with the bases loaded. Ryan Cloude was summoned to the mound to induce a pop up and record a strikeout to end the SVU threat.
  • RC would re-take the lead in the bottom half. Will Salva drew a walk and Gavin Kandrick was hit by a pitch leading to a Tyler De Meo sacrifice bunt. Conner Butler sent a double into left field to plate a pair.
  • After a pair of insurance runs in the sixth, Kevin Ledford came in to close out the seventh for his first save of the season.
  • Cloude recorded the win with Butler, 1-3 with two RBI, providing the go ahead run.

Up Next: Roanoke will host William Peace on Saturday in a pair of seven inning games. Game one of the double header is set to start at 12:30pm.
