The Lead: Roanoke College opened up Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Saturday afternoon when they welcomed Lynchburg to the Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. In the opener, the Hornets used 17 hits to pull away for the 13-3 win. The second game would see Lynchburg take a lead before back-to-back runs for the Maroons put them in front and the bullpen closed it down for the 2-1 win.

How it Happened:

  • Lynchburg got on the board with an RBI single in the top of the second. With three runs each ion the third and fourth innings, the Hornets were in control of the matchup.
  • Roanoke got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Tyler De Meo doubled down the left field line to score Gavin Kandrick.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Carter Plunkett hammered the ball out of the stadium down the left field line for a 2-run home run.
  • Lynchburg out-hit Roanoke 17-8.
  • Plunkett was 3-4 with a run and two RBI. DeMeo was 2-4 with an RBI and a stolen base while Will Merriken went 2-5 with a run scored.

How it Happened:

  • Lynchburg and Roanoke were locked in a 0-0 dual for the first part of game number two. The Hornets would break the tie when a bases loaded double play would plate the game's first run in the top of the fifth.
  • The Maroons would tie it up in the bottom of the sixth when Merriken sent a shot off the right field wall scoring Josh Dawson despite Merriken getting gunned down trying to stretch it into a triple.
  • One inning later Roanoke would load the bases. Cale Agee sent a SAC fly to center field to score Plunkett for the go ahead run.
  • Nick Davis pitched into the eighth inning with the 2-1 lead. Davis gave the ball to Kevin Ledford for the final five outs. Ledford notched his second save of the season, giving up no hits and striking out two to preserve the win for Davis.
  • Dawson was 1-2 with a run scored while Kandrick went 1-2 with a triple.

Up Next: Roanoke is scheduled to host Southern Virginia in a pair of seven inning games this Wednesday. First pitch against the Knights is set for 3:00pm.
