The Basics
Score: Roanoke 3 | Ferrum 0
Records: Maroons 11-4 / 4-1 ODAC | Panthers 4-9 / 2-3 ODAC
Location: Ferrum, Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke College baseball team traveled to Ferrum for a mid-week Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game on Wednesday night. A pair of runs in the sixth and one more in the eighth would stake the Maroons to a 3-0 lead heading into the last half inning. A double and an error put a pair of Panthers on ahead of an RBI single to close the gap. Roanoke got a ground out to short to seal the 3-1 win.

How it Happened:

  • Both pitchers would keep the game scoreless heading into the sixth inning. Evan Parks got the start and went six, shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out eight.
  • In the sixth, Gavin Kandrick would score the game's first run on a single by Tyler De Meo. Three batters later, Carter Plunkett hit his ODAC leading, ninth double of the season for a 2-0 lead.
  • In the top of the eighth, Plunkett launched his third home run of the year for a 3-0 lead that the Maroons would take into the bottom of the ninth.
  • After a pair of scoreless innings by Austin Bansek, Roanoke went to closer Kevin Ledford for the final three outs of the night.
  • Ferrum would lead off the frame with a double and after an error by RC, runners were on first and third. Ledford got the next two Panthers swinging, but a single through the left side would cut the lead to 3-1. Ledford induced a ground out for his fourth save of the season.
  • Plunkett went 2-4 with a run and two RBI. Conner Butler was 3-4 with a stolen base while Kandrick finished 2-3 with a run scored. Parks picked up his first ODAC win of the season.

Up Next: Roanoke is on the road at Washington and Lee this weekend for an ODAC double header.
