Plunkett, Turner, Kandrick Named All-ODAC

three Maroons named All ODAC

When the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC0 announced the 2021 all conference baseball teams on Thursday, a trio of Maroons were named All ODAC. Designated hitter Carter Plunkett made the first team while pitcher Will Turner and catcher Gavin Kandrick were named to the second team after a season that would see Roanoke College post an overall record of 23-10 and claim the #3 spot in the final ODAC standings.

Plunkett, a sophomore from Roanoke, was the offensive leader for the Maroons this season. Plunkett finished the year ranked in the top 10 in the ODAC in Hits, Doubles, Home Runs, RBI, Total Bases, Batting Average, and Slugging Percentage. His 16 doubles were 1st in the league. His final stat line showed a .405 average (6th) with 49 hits (6th), six home runs (8th), 16 doubles (1st), 37 RBI (6th), 85 total bases (5th), and a slugging percentage of .702 (5th).

Turner, a sophomore pitcher, finished the season with seven wins against zero loses. His seven wins were tied for tops in the league as was his 1.000 winning percentage. Turner appeared in 13 games while making four starts in his 42.2 innings of work. He gave up 41 hits and only 15 earned runs to post an earned run average (ERA) of 3.16. Turner's ERA was 7th best in the league overall but his conference ERA of 2.35 was 4th in the ODAC.

Kandrick, a senior, earned all conference honors for the first time in his Roanoke College career. This season, Kandrick made 28 appearances while finishing in the top 10 in the league with 236 total chances (6th) and 217 put outs (5th). His final offensive stat line featured a .301 batting average, 23 runs, 25 hits, four doubles, a triple and one home run.
