The Lead: After picking up a win in game one, the Maroons looked to knock off Randolph-Macon and advance to High Point (N.C.) four the four-team championship tournament. With four runs in the third and three more in the fifth, Roanoke took a 7-1 lead into the late innings. Randolph-Macon scored a pair in the top of the ninth, but Roanoke would finish off the Yellow Jackets and advance to the Final Weekend of the ODAC Tournament.  

Highlights:

  • Jeb Byerley singled to start the third and advanced on a SAC bunt. A passed ball moved Byerley up 90-feet and he would score on a wild pitch. Mason Staz reached on an error and a single by Ty Staz, put runners on second and third. Owen Lawn delivered the big blow with a three-run home run to right, giving Roanoke a 4-0 lead.
  • Two innings later, Conner Butler singled and Lawn reached on another Yellow Jacket miscue. Jonny Wall doubled down the left field line, driving in one. Wall and Lawn scored on a PK Cocolis single to make it 7-1.
  • Will Turner did the rest. The right hander got the start and went 8.2 innings, giving way to Jackson Murphy. Murphy struck out the only batter he faced to seal the win for the Maroons. Turner scattered seven hits and gave up just one earned run while striking out four.
  • Staz (Ty) and Wall each registered two hits, with Lawn and Cocolis combining for five RBI.

Up next: Roanoke advances to the four-team Final Weekend tournament at Truist Point in High Point, May 13-15. The four teams will be re-seeded with the first game scheduled to start at 4:00pm on Friday afternoon.
