Maroons Drop Series Finale With No. 16 Johns Hopkins

The Lead: The Roanoke baseball team dropped the finale of a two-game series in Baltimore with No. 16 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday afternoon. 

Highlights:

  • The Blue Jays scored two runs in the first, three runs in the third, one run in the fourth, and their final run in the eighth. 
  • Mason Staz collected the Maroons' first hit in the fourth inning; a single to right center. Jacob Bonzon followed in the sixth with a hard-hit ball to third for an infield single.
  • The ninth inning saw Staz collect his second hit with a single up the middle with one out. Trevor Moore was hit by the following pitch to put runners on first and second. Brady Ivory followed up by reaching first while Staz reached third on a fielder's choice. Nate Prince got the second hit of the inning with a single to the shortstop that scored Staz from third before JHU collected the final out for the 7-1 win.

Up next: Roanoke will travel to Harrisonburg this Saturday when they open ODAC play with a doubleheader at Eastern Mennonite. The first pitch with the Royals is scheduled for 12 p.m.
