Maroons Topple Greensboro in Midweek Action, 14-4

The Lead: The Roanoke baseball team jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings en route to a 14-4, 7-inning win over Greensboro in a non-conference midweek match-up with the Pride in Greensboro. 

Highlights:

  • The Maroons took a 2-0 lead after just the first inning after a single by Jonny Wall scored Jacob Bonzon and a sacrifice fly by Owen Lawn scored Mason Staz.
  • In the third inning, Roanoke used five hits, including three extra-base hits by Wall, Conner Butler, and Brody Langlotz, to score five runs and stake themselves a 7-0 lead. A solo home run by the Pride in the bottom of the inning cut the lead down to 7-1 after three complete.
  • After a scoreless fourth for both teams, the Maroons added two runs in each of the fifth and sixth, including a 2-run, home run for Lawn on the first pitch he saw. Greensboro would cut the lead down to 11-4 with a trio of runs in the bottom of the sixth. 
  • The seventh inning saw Roanoke respond with three runs in the top half of the inning while the Maroons held Greensboro scoreless in the bottom half of the frame for a 10-run rule contest win over the Pride.
  • Wall, Lawn, Langlotz, and Spencer Rhoads each had two of the Maroons' 14 hits in the contest. 

Up next: Roanoke return to ODAC play this weekend when they visit Bridgewater on Saturday, April 15 for an ODAC doubleheader. First pitch with the Eagles is scheduled for 12 p.m.
