Maroons Compete in Race Hosted by NC State

Hays Edmunds Race Report:
The Rogue State road race was an awesome way to start off the season. Early in the race I attacked and started a breakaway which lasted for 30 miles of the 47-mile race. I had kept up well on my nutrition and hydration but in the end my legs gave out. I did not finish with the lead group, but I was happy that I executed my race plan well and got valuable experience riding in the break. The Dixie Classic was a technical and fast paced criterium course. After my experience in the road race, I decided I would not try to make any breaks, and would just do my best to sit in and save energy for the sprint. In the final sprint I was able to jump up from 11th to 6th overall.

Ben Cerkovnik Race Report:
I was excited for the weekend of racing. The road race was a little bit longer, so I went into it thinking maybe I could do well. However, my positioning needed to be better and I spent too much time in the wind. Eventually, the group got away from me. The crit the next day went much better. The course was slightly technical with a small climb. I got close to getting one of the mid-race sprints, but couldn't quite get around another rider.  I finished in the front group in 11th place overall.

Rafe Johnson Race Report:
It's crazy to think that my max-distance (for riding my bike) has been essentially tripled in the past two weeks. It's been a struggle keeping up a consistent training schedule, but I'm determined to improve - in both my fitness and time management skills. I've been constantly receiving so much help, and amazing advice from my teammates & coach, and I don't want all that to go to waste!

Next Up: The Maroons will compete March. 25-26 in Durham, N.C.
