Roanoke Falls to Stevenson, 1-0 in Non-Conference Field Hockey Action
STEVENSON, Md. --- Roanoke dropped a 1-0 decision to Stevenson this afternoon in non-conference action. The Maroons are now 0-5 on the season while the Mustangs evened its record to 2-2.
 
Seven minutes into the second-half, Stevenson's Jennifer Sauers scored off a penalty corner from Katelyn Manocheh for the eventual game-winner. The Mustangs out-shot the Maroons, 11-2 in the second half.
 
The Maroons were out-shot, 15-5 as Stevenson held the 15-4 penalty corner advantage. Lee Sheldon (Darien, CT, Darien)led the Maroons with three shots followed by Kate McGuire (Royal Oak, MD, Easton)and Helen Pearsall (Chicago, IL, Berkshire School), who had a shot each.
 
Kelli Battista and Katelyn Manocheh each totaled five shots as Sauers had four in the Mustangs second win of the season.
 
Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional)and Stevenson's Kara Zimmerman each totaled five saves in goal on the afternoon. Shawna Poole had a defensive save for the Maroons.
 
The women will play on Sunday against another Maryland opponent, Frostburg St. in non-conference play. Game time is scheduled for noon.
