Field Hockey falls to Bridgewater, 2-1 in Regular Season Finale
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke fell to visiting Bridgewater, 2-1 this evening at Kerr Stadium in its regular season finale. The Maroons finish the regular season, 2-13, 2-5 in the ODAC while the Eagles improve to 9-8 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
 
Roanoke was even with Bridgewater in shots (11-11) and shots on goal (4-4) in a hard fought contest between both teams for an ODAC Tournament spot.
 
Christina Pybus put Bridgewater on the board late in the first half off an assist from Brianna Jacques and held on for a 1-0 lead at the half.
 
With eight minutes left in the second half, Helen Pearsall (Chicago, IL, Berkshire School)scored her fourth goal of the season to tie the contest at 1-1. Kate McGuire (Royal Oak, MD, Easton)was credited with her first assist of the season.
 
But three minutes later, the Eagles' Pybrus found an open Allison Carr as she found the back of the cage for the game-winner with just under five minutes remaining.
 
Pearsall had four shots, three on goal to lead the Maroons. Lee Sheldon (Darien, CT, Darien)finished with three shots, Kate McGuire had one shot on goal.
 
Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional)finished with two saves in goal for the Maroons. She now has 126 on the season and is ranked sixth all-time in career saves at Roanoke with 241. Ashley Fuhrer (Moorestown, NJ, Moorestown )is the new single-season defensive saves leader at Roanoke with two tonight, upping her total to 13 on the year.
