Diehl Scores Twice as Field Hockey Tops Eastern Mennonite 4-1

The Lead: The Roanoke College Field Hockey team picked up its first ODAC victory of the season by defeating Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday by a score of 4-1.

How it Happened:
  • Megan Diehl got the action started for the Maroons when she scored an unassisted goal 14 minutes in off of a rebounded shot by Shelbi Holloman.
  • Diehl picked up her second goal of the game that was assisted by Katerina DeSimone's centering pass on a breakaway.
  • Sophomore Rebecca Schmidt collected a rebound off another shot from Holloman and notched her first goal of the season to give the Maroons a 3-0 lead heading into the second half.
  • Melissa Cox scored the Royal's only goal of the match at the 55:41 mark off of a rebounded shot to narrow the margin to 3-1.
  • Holloman was able to get her 10th goal of the season with just five minutes left to play on a goal assisted by DeSimone off of a penalty corner.
  • RC outshot EMU 22-9 and also held a 16-5 edge in penalty corners.
  • Heather Schauder played all 70 minutes in goal while picking up four saves Maroons.
