The Lead: Roanoke traveled to top ranked Washington and Lee for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) semifinal matchup with the Generals. The 4th seeded Maroons looked to continue their run, 6-0, that led up to the showdown in Lexington. Neither team scored in the first half with W&L enjoying a slight edge in shots, 9-7. However, a late third quarter score would put the Generals in front and after a second goal in the fourth, the Generals would advance to the Championship game with a 2-0 win over Roanoke.  

Highlights:

  • The home team led in shots, 3-1, after 15 minutes of play.
  • The second quarter would see each team take six shots and thanks in part to seven, first half saves, by Madison Wingerter the game would be scoreless.
  • Right before the break, Roanoke was awarded a Penalty Corner. Off the set play, Emilee Wooten sent a shot off the post with just three seconds on the clock and the game would remain tied at the half.
  • In the final minute and a half of the third, Washington and Lee would break the scoreless tie with a deflected shot into the goal.
  • Just past the midway point of the final period, W&L was awarded a Penalty Shot that they converted to increase their advantage to 2-0.
  • RC had one last scoring opportunity late in the finale but the Lindsey Keyes shot was turned away and Roanoke fell, 2-0.
  • Wingerter finished the game with eight saves.
