Winfield replaces Pridgen as Moir's assistant coach for Men's Basketball
Robbie Winfield, a 2005 Roanoke College graduate and former player under Page Moir, will join him as the top assistant on his men's basketball staff. He will replace Robby Pridgen, who received a Div. I assistant position at Robert Morris (PA) located in Pittsburgh.
Pridgen, a 2003 graduate and former player under Moir, joins a list of many assistants under the 21-year head coach that have joined the Div. I ranks. Most notable among them is Hilliary Scott, who was at East Tennessee State and Penn State before taking the head position at ODAC-rival Lynchburg. During his three years as an assistant in Salem, Pridgen helped improved the Maroons' win total each season.
“I'm really excited to have Robbie (Winfield) back at Roanoke,” said Moir. “He brings four great years of experience at Carson-Newman and the working knowledge of Roanoke from his four years in our program.”
Winfield, a four-year letterman under Moir from 2001-05, graduated with a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. In his final season as team captain, he started in 19 games, helping Roanoke to a 15-12 regular season finish. Winfield's career high also came in his final collegiate season, posting 16 points in a Maroons' win over Hamden-Sydney College.
Winfield was a standout at McMinn County (TN) High School, where he was a backcourt mate of current Tennessee standout JuJuan Smith. The Athens, TN native graduated with a Master's in Arts of Teaching degree from Carson-Newman in May of 2007.
While at C-N, Winfield was responsible for the recruitment, practice planning, scouting, film exchange among other administrative duties during his four-year stint with the Eagles. Carson-Newman is a member of NCAA Div. II and the South Atlantic Conference. During the last two years, the Eagles were ranked among the top-10 nationally in scoring.
