Two Maroons Named to 2009 Men's Basketball All-ODAC Team

Two Roanoke men's basketball players were named to the 2009 All-ODAC team announced last evening at the ODAC Tournament banquet. Curtis Peery was named First-Team All-ODAC while Parrish Walker earned honorable mention honors.
Peery, a local product out of Salem High School, was named All-ODAC for the third-straight season. He currently leads the team in scoring (18.5 ppg), rebounding (6.8 rpg) and free-throw percentage (84.2%). He was named ODAC Player of the Week on three occasions and was named MVP of the V-Foundation Classic and the CNU Invitational. Peery was named All-Tournament team in the W&L Classic and the Domino's New Year's Classic.
The senior forward is second in blocked shots (13) and has 10 20-point games this season. Peery has scored in double-figures in all but one game this year and has produced seven double-doubles performances. His 1,333 career points puts him six shy of passing Gene Luna ‘71 for 12th on the all-time scoring list at Roanoke. He is currently sixth all-time since the NCAA Div. III-era (1979-pres.). His 298 career free-throws made are now 10th all-time at Roanoke.
Walker, a Greensboro, NC native, earns his first All-ODAC selection in his first full season with the Maroons. A versatile guard, he is currently second on the team in scoring (11.7 ppg) and assists (57) while leading the Maroons in steals (46). A Dudley High School product, Walker has led the team in scoring six times and rebounding on four occasions. In the last game of the regular season against Emory & Henry, he led the team with 19 points and seven rebounds. He scored his career-high of 26 points against the Wasps on Jan. 7. The last meeting against Hampden-Sydney (Feb. 11), Walker scored 16 points and led the Maroons with 13 points in the Dec. 3 matchup against the Tigers.
The Maroons finished the regular season with a 19-6 overall mark, the best since the 2000-01 season. The men also won 11 ODAC games for the third-straight year and earned a #3 seed in the ODAC Tournament. The men will take on HSC this evening at the Salem Civic Center in the ODAC Quarterfinals. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
