Game Notes vs. Bridgewater

Roanoke looks to stretch its 12-game winning streak to 13 tonight with a win over ODAC-rival Bridgewater on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the Bast Center. The #18 Maroons are undefeated at home and is one of two undefeated teams remaining in the conference.
Series Information vs. the Eagles
Roanoke holds a 97-30 all-time advantage against Bridgewater since 1918. The Maroons have won the last seven meetings, including the last meeting in the ODAC Semifinals, 87-62. Page Moir is 32-11 for his career vs. Bridgewater. The men took a 76-55 decision on the road and won 78-61 on the Maroons senior night last season.
Last Meeting - Feb. 20, 2008
The men's basketball team defeated Bridgewater, 78-61 to close out the home portion of its regular season on Wednesday evening. The Maroons improved to 17-7 overall and 11-6 in the ODAC. The Eagles dropped to 12-12, 7-10 in the ODAC. The 11 conference wins match last season's win total and is the first back-to-back 11-ODAC win seasons since 2001-03. The 34 two-year win total is the most since 1999-01.
Roanoke won the battle of the boards, 40-38 and had six blocked shots and dished out 22 assists. The Maroons outscored the Eagles, 32-26 in the paint. The men held the Eagles to 36% from the field while shooting 43%, 38% from beyond the arc.
The Maroons got off to a great start as Jeff Leiter and Ben Shrader hit three three-pointers to give them a 9-0 lead early. They built their lead as high as 24 off a Curtis Peery lay-up just before the half as the Maroons went into the locker room with a 44-23 advantage.
Bridgewater started to close in on Roanoke's big lead. Down 51-29 with 16 minutes remaining, the Eagles mounted a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to close the gap to 12, 53-41.
The Eagles got within 10 points after a made lay-up by Justin Reavis with 3:21 left. The Maroons closed the contest scoring 10 of the games' final 13 points, including 6-of-6 from the charity stripe to seal the win.
Leiter had a career-high 18 points off a career-best six three-pointers in his first start of the season. His six three's in the first half was a new school-record. Melvin Felix had 13 points for his fifth game in double-figures in the last six games. Peery chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. Carter dished out team-best six assists.
Josh LaPorte finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and two steals to pace the Maroons. He passed James Pennix '88 for fifth all-time in steals with 172. His three blocked shots tied Derek Otten '92 for third all-time in that category. He now has 229 assists and needs only nine more to pass Brad Dunleavy '01 for 10th all-time.
The Eagles were led by Michael Oblitey and Reavis with 12 points each. Dominic Trawick had seven points and four rebounds while Reavis added seven rebounds.
Last Time Out - vs. Guilford Jan. 12
SALEM, Va. --- Curtis Peery notched his third-straight double-double on Monday evening as Roanoke College defeated Guilford College, 80-76, in ODAC men's basketball action at the C. Homer Bast Center. The Maroons improve to 13-1 overall, 5-0 in the ODAC. The Quakers, who saw their six-game winning streak snapped, fell to 10-3, 3-1 in ODAC play.
Roanoke, ranked #18 in the latest top-25 poll, shot 50% from the floor while holding their opponents to 35% in the second half to win their 12th-straight. It is the longest win streak and best start (overall and in conference play) since the 1999-00 season. Roanoke shot over 50-percent from the field against Guilford for the sixth time this season, which entered the game as the ODAC-leader in field-goal percentage defense (.381).
Peery, who was named ODAC Player of the Week for the third time this season, led the Maroons with a 24-point, 10-rebound performance. He shot 10-of-17 from the floor, 4-of-5 from the charity stripe and dished out four assists. It was the third-straight double-double, sixth of the season. His 1,147 career points ranks him 22nd on the all-time scoring list at Roanoke.
Guilford rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit to tie the game at 74-74 on a follow basket by freshman Brad Monroe with 2:50 remaining to cap a 10-3 run. Neither team scored over the next 1:11 before Peery's inside basket off aDrew Gaeng assist broke the game's fifth and final tie off a Quaker turnover.
Corey Poindexter and Peery both made two free throws in the final 18-seconds to seal Roanoke's win.
Melvin Felix finished with 16 points, 4-of-7 from beyond the arc in addition to three assists in the win. Parrish Walker had 11 points and six rebounds along with three assists.
Roanoke outscored the Quakers, 21-13 off the bench, led by sixth-man Poindexter who tossed in 11 points (2-of-3 from three-point range) including the final two free-throws to seal the win.
Tyler Sandborn led all players with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Clay Henson finished with 18 points while Rhett Bonner tossed in 14 points. The Quakers out-rebounded Roanoke, 36-33

Scouting the Eagles
Bridgewater, (7-7, 3-2 ODAC) broke a three-game losing streak with a big ODAC win vs. Lynchburg, 70-64. The Eagles are led by Dominic Trawick (16.3 ppg) and Michael Oblitey (6.4 rpg). Trawick scored his 1,000th career point in the game against Shenandoah. He is the 32nd player in BC men's history to reach the 1,000-point mark. Michael Oblitey averaged 13 points and 7.0 rebounds during the Eagles three games this past week. He scored 17 points in a loss at R-MC and turned in a double-double at Shenandoah with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Roanoke Moves up in Top-25 Poll
Roanoke, who is 13-1, 5-0 in the ODAC, received 182 points to move up four spots to #18 in the nation. The Maroons are the only ODAC conference team to be ranked but are joined by ODAC-foe Randolph-Macon who received 13 votes.
Record Watch
With four more blocks, senior forward Aaron Tyson will join the top-10 all-time at Roanoke in career blocked shots. He comes into tonight's game with 58 for his career. Tyson is third in the ODAC in blocked shots (23).
Curtis Peery passed Tony Proietti '52 and Jared Butler '06 for 22nd on the all-time scoring list with 1,147 points. He needs 32 more points to gain sole possession of 21st moving past Mike Bake '81 with 1,188. The Salem native recorded his third consecutive double-double his sixth of the season with 24 points and 10rebounds in the 80-76 victory over Guilford.
Ranked in the ODAC
Curtis Peery is ranked in the top-five in the ODAC in five different categories. He leads the conference in free throw percentage 85.7%), is second in scoring (19.7), third in rebounding (7.9), fifth in field goal percentage (57.7%), and second in defensive rebounds.
Parrish Walker is ranked third in the ODAC averaging 2.2 steals per game. He has recorded 31 steals this season. Corey Poindexter and Drew Gaeng have moved into the top-10 in three-point percentage in the conference. Poindexter is eighth with 40.7% and Gaeng is seventh with 43.2%. Gaeng is also tenth in the conference with 2.71 assists per game.

Roanoke claims an undefeated mark of 7-0 this season when hosting opponents in the C. Homer Bast Center. They are also 2-0 when they play on Wednesdays and 5-0 in 2009. The Maroons average 87.5 points per game and are 12-1 when scoring 70 or more.
