SALEM, Va. --- Randolph-Macon defeated Roanoke, 87-54 in ODAC action Wednesday evening at the Bast Center. The Maroons dropped to 6-15 overall, 3-9 in the ODAC. The Yellow Jackets improved to 16-4, 7-4 in conference play.

Randolph-Macon shot 53% on the night and outscored Roanoke 49-28 in the second half to earn a much needed ODAC win for the Yellow Jackets. They outrebounded the Maroons, 48-23 which led to 50 points in the paint and outscored RC, 21-10 in second chance points and 24-12 in points off turnovers.

The Maroons fell behind early, 15-4 but stayed within single digits for the first 12 minutes of action. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 16 and went into the half with a 38-26 lead.

A 13-4 run by R-MC pushed its lead to 20 in the first four minutes of the second stanza. Down 59-34, Roanoke went on a 13-4 run which cut the deficit to 16 with 8:14 remaining. The Yellow Jackets continued to pull away, outscoring Roanoke, 24-7 in the final eight minutes.

Brandon Braxton led all scorers with 20 points (8-for-10 shooting) along with seven rebounds. Calvin Croskey added 16 points including 4-of-6 from three-point range. Danny Jones chipped in 14 points.

Melvin Felix (Caguas, Puerto Rico, Salem)and Kwasi Amponsah (Woodbridge, VA, Garfield)led Roanoke with eight points each. Corey Poindexter (Pulaski, VA, Pulaski County/Hargrave)tossed in seven while Matt Crizer added six points for the Maroons.

The men will return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 10 against Hampden-Sydney. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
