Roanoke Ends Season in ODAC Tournament at Lynchburg, 83-78
LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Lynchburg held on to defeat Roanoke, 83-78 in the ODAC Play-in round game Tuesday evening. The Maroons ended their season at 6-20 while the Hornets improved to 12-14 and will advance to the ODAC Quarterfinals vs. Guilford.
Matt Crizer (Covington, VA, Alleghany)finished one-point shy of his career-high with 20 points to lead the Maroons to go along with seven rebounds. His 49 three-pointers tied Jason Bishop (Duffield, VA, Rye Cove)'97 for ninth on the single-season list. Corey Poindexter (Pulaski, VA, Pulaski County/Hargrave)posted career-highs of 16 points and seven assists, scoring 30 points in the last two games of the season.
After shooting 51.5% in the first half, the Maroons dipped to 39.3%. The Hornets went 56.7% from the floor and outscored Roanoke, 48-34 in the second stanza. Lynchburg had the advantage from beyond the arc, hitting nine three-pointers to the Maroons three.
Roanoke out-rebounded Lynchburg, 37-29, 20-10 in the first half. The Maroons shot 45.9% for the game to the Hornets, 51.7% overall. RC shot 19-of-24 from the line, including 10-of-11 in the first half.
The lead changed hands seven times to start the game before Roanoke stretched out an 11-point lead, 33-22. It forced Lynchburg's Hillary Scott (Lynchburg, VA, EC Glass)to call timeout with 6:29 remaining after Crizer's layup capped a 14-2 run.
The Hornets cut the lead to within five, 33-28, but the Maroons answered with an 8-2 run to extend their lead back to 11 with 2:11 remaining. RC went into the half with a nine-point advantage, its largest of the season.
But the Maroons lead was evaporated as the Hornets went on a 17-3 run in the first six minutes of the second half to take a five-point lead. Page Moir called timeout with 14:14 remaining down, 52-47.
Down seven with 6:01 left, Crizer and Poindexter combined for seven of the next nine points of the contest to make it, 70-68. Then Chillemi scored eight-straight points for Lynchburg to push the Hornets lead to six with 1:31 left. But Roanoke wouldn't go away, knocking down two three-pointers to cut it to one with 18-seconds remaining.

Down 81-78 with 15-seconds left, Crizer's three-point attempt sailed right and went into the hands of Lynchburg's Austin Chillemi. He sank both free throws to ice the game.
Michael McGeough (Danville, VA, George Washington)was one point shy of his second-career double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. Parrish Walker (Greensboro, NC, Dudley)tossed in 11 makers, including 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Kendrick Chittock (Auburn, OH, University School)added 10 points and four boards while Logan Singleton chipped in eight counters.
KC Mendez and Austin Chillemi each led Lynchburg with 18 points. Steven Echols finished with 11 points and five steals. Brandan Connor added seven points, three rebounds and three steals.
