The men's basketball team will host Randolph-Macon in the first game of a Roanoke Hoops Doubleheader to celebrate Winterfest at Roanoke College Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. held at the Bast Center.
Series Information
Randolph-Macon owns a slim edge (75-69) in the series since 1911, making it one of the oldest opponents in the history of the Roanoke College Men's Basketball program. The last regular season win against the Yellow Jackets came during the 2000-01 season (W, 66-52). The last win against R-MC came in the 2007 ODAC Semifinals (W, 79-58). Page Moir is 15-30 against Randolph-Macon.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
Randolph-Macon (19-4, 13-3 ODAC) is ranked 11th in the country, according to the latest D3Hoops Top-25 Poll. Virginia Wesleyan, ranked #6 in the country, defeated the Yellow Jackets, 53-50 on Wednesday evening. They will play against Hampden-Sydney in the regular season finale on Feb. 19.
Danny Jones (14 ppg) is averaging 5.3 rebounds per game and leads the ODAC in field goal percentage (62.8%). Eric Pugh (10.6 ppg) leads the Yellow Jackets in assists (3.2 apg) while second in three-point percentage (42.3%), knocking down a team-best 47 three-pointers.
About the Maroons
Roanoke (9-13, 5-8 ODAC) will look to string back-to-back wins for the first time in a month and make a significant push in the ODAC standings with a win today. The men are coming off a thrilling 75-74 win over Emory & Henry Wednesday evening. They will travel to Randolph College on Wednesday, Feb. 16 before hosting Bridgewater on Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 19 to close the regular season.
Melvin Felix (16.1 ppg) ranks fifth in the ODAC in scoring and is three points shy of passing Ron Pendleton for 25th on the career scoring list at Roanoke. Felix, who enters today's contest with 1,093 career points, is 10 points shy of passing Tony Proietti for 24th on that list.
Logan Singleton has been on a tear in February, averaging 22.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game while shooting 55.1% overall, 9-of-19 from three-point range (47.4%) and 85% from beyond the arc. In 14 starts this season, he is averaging 16.1 points and 7.1 boards. Singleton ranks among the top-three in the conference in field goal percentage (60.1%).
