Amponsah Scores Game-Winner to Give Roanoke a 66-65 Win over Randolph
LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Kwasi Amponsah scored a layup with six-seconds left to give Roanoke a 66-65 win over Randolph in ODAC action Wednesday evening. Roanoke improved to 10-14 overall, 6-9 in the conference. Randolph slipped to 15-9, 8-7 in the ODAC.

The win puts the Maroons in good position for hosting an ODAC play-in game on Tuesday, Feb. 22 as they evened the series, 2-2 against the Wildcats. The win marks the second single-digit win over the last three games.

Roanoke out-rebounded the WildCats 40-38, but had 16 offensive rebounds which resulted in 23 more shot attempts for the visitors. Roanoke finished 28-73 (38.4 percent) as a squad, knocking down five-of-13 from deep.

The WildCats tied the score for the first time since 3-3 with 12:29 left as first-year guard Mike Ehilegbu buried a three to knot the game at 49-all. Roanoke inched back out to a five point spread with 8:37 left, but Randolph again rallied to tie the score three more times over the next six minutes.

After Amponsah put Roanoke up 64-62 on a tip-in with 1:18 left, the WildCats took their first at 65-64 lead of the game since they were up 1-0 thanks to a three-pointer from Caleb Pearson.

The WildCats forced a stop on the next possession, but after a missed free throw Amponsah scored the last two of his game-high 22 points on a coast-to-coast lay-up for the game-winner. A shot at the buzzer from Pearson was just off the mark, as Randolph suffered its fourth-straight conference loss.

Roanoke controlled play in the first half, leading by as much as 17 points midway through the period. Randolph ended the first half on a 16-7 run to pull to within eight going into the locker room

Amponsah's scored a career-best 22 points shooting 10-of-18 from the field to go along with four steals. Melvin Felix added 12 points in addition to five assists and three steals while Jack Hamilton tossed in 11 makers with five rebounds. Logan Singleton scored only six points but pulled down a career conference game-best 13 boards and blocked two shots.

Ehilegbu led Randolph with 18 points, hitting 7-of-9 from the line followed by Derrick Woods-Morrow with 14 counters and nine rebounds. Colton Hunt narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine boards. Pete Hamilton chipped in seven points and led the Wildcats with five assists.

The men will return home on Saturday, Feb. 19 as they host Bridgewater in their regular season finale. It will be senior day for Matt Crizer, Melvin Felix, Terrell Johnson, Joey Leech and Corey Poindexter. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
