Kenyon Rallies in second half to knock off Roanoke in First Day of Morris Cregger Classic
SALEM, Va. --- Kenyon battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit to knock off Roanoke, 80-67 in the first day of the 2012 Morris Cregger New Year's Classic Monday at the Bast Center. The Maroons fall to 3-7 while the Lords improve to 5-6.

The Lords, who won their third-straight, blistered the nets shooting nearly 52-percent (15-29) including 5-of-9 from three-point range (55.6%). They handled their own on the defense end, out-rebounding the Maroons, 23-14 and held RC to a mere 35-percent (9-26) shooting in the second stanza.

Kenyon took the early lead in the first three minutes of action, 11-4 before Roanoke erased its deficit with a 14-7 to tie the game with 13-minutes left. Down 24-18 midway through the first half, Jack Hamilton and Logan Singleton combined to score 12 unanswered points to jump out to a six-point edge, 30-24 with 5:48 remaining.

The Lords cut it to within two, 33-31 with just over a minute to go before halftime. Adam Kessler's two made free-throws and Clay Lacy's three-pointer from the top of the key just before time expired helped give Roanoke a seven-point advantage heading to the locker room, 38-31.

A made basket by Singleton gave the Maroons a 44-39 lead with 18:16 left in regulation, but the Ohio school answered with a 12-2 run to give them a 51-45 lead and wouldn't lose it for the remainder of the contest.

Both teams traded buckets over the ensuing four minutes. Lacy connected on another three-pointer in the corner to cut the Kenyon lead to four, 59-55 with just under seven minutes remaining.

Then the Lords pulled away, going on a 9-2 run over the next three minutes to go up 11 and sealed their fifth victory of the season.

Logan Singleton led Roanoke with 20 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. He needs two more blocks to move into sixth all-time in that category. Kwasi Amponsah finished with 14 points, hitting 5-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Clay Lacy added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Marcus Healey led Kenyon with 20 points, hitting 5-of-6 from downtown, 3-of-3 from the line and 6-for-9 overall. Ikenna Nwadibia had 17 points and a game-best 18 rebounds while Anthony Chun chipped in 14 points with three assists and three steals. Brian Lebowitz totaled seven points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

The men will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 3 as they host Swarthmore in the consolation game. The Garnet are 1-10 on the season and played in their first game since Dec. 7 as they fell 81-77 to Shenandoah today. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
