Eacho's Career Day Lifts Roanoke to 80-73 Regular Season Finale Victory
HARRISONBURG --- Roanoke gained some momentum heading into post-season play with an 80-73 regular season finale victory over Bridgewater Saturday afternoon at Nunninger Hall. The Maroons close the regular season with a 7-18 record, including a 3-13 conference mark. The Eagles head into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament with a 7-18 ledger, 4-12 against conference competition.

Roanoke shot 42.6% overall, including 7-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Maroons out-rebounded the Eagles, 53-35 for one of their largest rebounding margins of the year.

Freshman forward Daniel Eacho poured in a career-best 21 points in addition to six rebounds to help Roanoke break a five-game skid. Eacho came into the game averaging just 3.9 points per game and had reached double figures just once this season with 14 points against Emory & Henry.

The Maroons took control of the first half and went into the locker room with a 39-28 halftime lead. Eacho led Roanoke with 16 first-half points, already surpassing his season-best at the break.

Senior center Logan Singleton opened the second half with a three-pointer to put the Maroons up by 14 and Roanoke maintained a comfortable working margin until the final seven minutes of the game.

The Eagles and cut the Maroons lead to four on two free throws by Ed Reddick, making the score 71-67, with 3:23 left. Zach Barrett hit a pair of foul shots for Roanoke, but Ronnie Thomas knocked down a 3-pointer in transition off an assist from Matthew Hunter to make it a three-point game, 73-70, with 2:23 to play.

From there it was all Singleton as the senior shined in the waning minutes of his final regular season collegiate game. It started on the defensive end, blocking a jumper by Cody Griffith as the Maroons regained possession. Then he scored a layup with 43-seconds remaining to give the Maroons a five-point lead. Thomas missed a jumper on the next possession as Singleton knocked down two free throws at the opposing end of the floor to make it 77-70 with 27-seconds left.

Singleton posted his fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds with two blocked shots. He was the hot hand on the afternoon, shooting 5-of-10, including 3-of-5 from three-point range and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Kwasi Amponsah added 13 points and three assists in the victory. Ethan Humphries had a solid performance with four points, four assists and four steals while Jack Hamilton provided five points, four rebounds and three assists.

Griffith and EJ Riddick led Bridgewater with 21 and 20 points, respectively. Thomas added 11 points and five assists for the Eagles.

The men will play at Randolph College on Tuesday, Feb. 21 in the first round of the ODAC Tournament. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
