Maroons Drop ODAC Contest to #24 Ranked Randolph on Wednesday
LYNCHBURG - The Roanoke College men's basketball team ran in to the #24 ranked Randolph College WildCats on Wednesday night, falling by the score of 73-61. The Maroons are now 7-7, 0-5 ODAC, while the WildCats are 13-0 and 5-0 in ODAC competition.

Amponsah was Roanoke's top scorer in the contest for the eighth time this season. In seven of the eight games that he has led the Maroons, he has scored 19 points or more. He is the second leading scorer in the ODAC, putting up 19.5 points per game. The only person that scores more points than Amponsah in the ODAC is Randolph's Colton Hunt (26.2 ppg), who ranks sixth amongst all NCAA Division III players.

By halftime, Ampsonsah led the Maroons with 13 points, shooting 5-6 from the field. He was followed in scoring by Daniels who tallied eight points and two rebounds. For the WildCats, Colton Hunt was the top scorer with 13 points and four rebounds.

Through the first five minutes of the second half, Randolph built its lead back to nine, 46-37 with four points coming from Hunt. Amponsah responded for the Maroons by hitting a jumper and a free throw to cut the deficit to six, 46-40. With 10:00 to play in the game, Julian Ramirez and Zach Barrett both hit layups to pull within four, 52-48.

The WildCats' Battaglia and Hunt knocked down five points each, building their lead back to 11, 62-51 with a little over five minutes to play in the game. The Maroons were unable to overcome the deficit built by the WildCats, and fell 73-61 to the #24 ranked team in the nation.

Amponsah finished the game with 19 points, shooting 7-11 from the field. He also finished with four rebounds. Ramirez was second in scoring for Roanoke, narrowly missing a double-double with nine points, a career-high eight rebounds and six assists.

The WildCats' Hunt led all players with 27 points, shooting 9-10 from the free throw line, as well as pulling down eight rebounds. Two other Randolph players finished in double digits, as Ehilegbu and Battaglia each finished the game with 16 points.

Randolph held the edge in shooting over Roanoke, 45.5 percent to 41.9 percent. The Maroons outrebounded the WildCats 36-33. The WildCats kept the Maroons at bay in terms of scoring by dishing out eight blocks on the night.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, January 12th as they play host to Lynchburg College in the Bast Center. That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM tip-off.
