Tough Second Half Halts Maroons, Fall to Lynchburg in ODAC Contest
SALEM - The Roanoke College men's basketball team faced a tough second half against Lynchburg College on Saturday, falling by the score of 86-68 in the ODAC contest. The Maroons now sit at 7-8, 0-6 in ODAC play while the Hornets are 12-3 and 3-3 in the ODAC.

The Maroons took an early 8-4 lead in the game, after threes from Jordan Thacker and Kwasi Amponsah, and a jumper from Daniel Eacho. The two teams battled back and forth, seeing six lead changes up to the 9:44 mark, at which point Amponsah and Julian Ramirez hit back to back treys to put Roanoke up by five, 22-17. With 4:30 to play in the half, Lynchburg's Austen Arnold hit a three to give Lynchburg a 26-24 lead. The Hornets held this lead through the half, ending the first period up 40-33.

Roanoke was able to pull within six in the first minutes of the second half, after free throws from Cameron Smith and Ramirez. The Hornets then went on an 11-2 run, taking a 15-point lead of 55-40 with 15:09 to play in the game. The Maroons were able to cut the deficit to 10, after a free throw by Stefan Vulevic, but the Hornets were able to increase their lead again. With 10-minutes to play, Austen Arnold knocked down a trey to put Lynchburg up by 21 points, 68-47, a lead that would hold through the remainder of the contest, as the Maroons fall 86-68 in the ODAC contest.

Kwasi Amponsah, the ODAC's second leading scorer, finished the game with 22 points. Daniel Eacho was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down nine boards. Julian Ramirez finished the contest with 11 points as well, along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Hornets were led in scoring by Austen Arnold, who tallied 21 points off an 8-12 shooting effort on the afternoon. Arnold shot 5-5 from behind the arc to go along with six rebounds. Alex Graves finished the game with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Also in double digits for Lynchburg was Austin Chillemi with 10 points.

Lynchburg outshot Roanoke 47.7 to 37.1 percent from the field, and 70.8 to 61.5 from behind the free throw line. The Hornets also held the advantage in rebounds 51-38.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, January 16th as they travel to Lexington to face Washington and Lee in ODAC action. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
