Maroons Roll on Wasps, Defeat Emory & Henry 82-65
SALEM - The Roanoke College men's basketball team defeated Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent Emory & Henry, 82-65 on Wednesday. The Maroons are 8-10, 1-8 in ODAC play, while the Wasps are now 3-13, 1-8 ODAC.

With Kwasi Amponsah's 23 points tonight, he moved his name up the all-time scoring record book. He now has a total of 1,184 career points, passing Melvin Felix '11 (1,173). It is the 10th game this season that Amponsah has been the high scorer for the Maroons, and eighth time scoring more than 20 points in a game.

Amponsah led the Maroons with 23 points, followed by Julian Ramirez with 14 points. Daniel Eacho picked up his fourth total and second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Julian Ramirez got off to a hot start for the Maroons, scoring Roanoke's first seven points of the contest. A basket by Jordan Thacker at 15:55 gave Roanoke a 9-0 lead. The Maroons held the Wasps scoreless through the first six minutes, until Cameron Coles hit a layup to make the score 11-2.

With 8:30 on the clock, the Maroons held an eight-point lead over the Wasps as Stefan Vulevic knocked down a layup to put Roanoke ahead 20-12. Shortly after, Emory & Henry's Miles Turner hit a trey to cut the deficit to five. Alexander Weant hit the old fashioned three-point play at 4:00 to put the Maroons ahead by 10, 31-21. Kwasi Amponsah scored eight points in the final four minutes of the half, helping Roanoke to extend its lead to twenty, 42-22 at the break.

At the half, Ramirez led the Maroons with nine points, followed by Amponsah with eight. Daniel Eacho led all players in rebounds with five. Emory & Henry's Myles Turner was the top scorer for the first period, netting 11 total points.

In the second half, starting at the 17:21 mark, the Maroons went on a 15-4 run. The scoring surge was fueled with eight points from Amponsah, which put Roanoke up by 28, 59-31. At 12:14, the Wasps started a run of their own, netting seven consecutive points, cutting the Roanoke lead to 22, 62-40. The Maroons put an end to that run with a dunk by Eacho and a layup by Amponsah.

Up to the 5:00 mark, Roanoke led by 25, 71-46. Just moments later, Seth Bradley dropped in a layup for his first career points as a Maroon. Emory & Henry went on a 10-0 run late in the contest, pulling within 18, but a trey by Jimmy Bradshaw stopped the Wasps' drive. Roanoke, who led by more than 20 for most of the contest, picked up the 82-65 victory over Emory & Henry in ODAC play.

Emory & Henry's Myles Turner led the Wasps with 17 points, while Tyler Mullins finished with 11. Turner also led the team in rebounds with six.

Roanoke outshot Emory & Henry 55.1 to 28.4 percent from the field and 38.5 to 22.7 percent from behind the arc. The Maroons also led in rebounds 48-41.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, January 26th as they travel to face Randolph-Macon College. That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
