Roanoke Falls to Bridgewater in Final Second, 75-73 in ODAC Action
BRIDGEWATER - The Roanoke College men's basketball team fell after on a last-second shot to Bridgewater College, 75-73 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Saturday. The Maroons are now 8-13, 1-11 ODAC, while the Eagles hold a record of 12-9, 6-6 in ODAC play.

Kwasi Amponsah, the ODAC's second leading scorer, finished the contest with 20 points, shooting 5-9 from behind the arc. Also with 20 for the Maroons was Andrew Daniels, who netted 8-11 from the field. Daniel Eacho put up his third double-double in four games and his sixth this season, scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. His recent effort on the glass has made him the fourth leading rebounder in the ODAC, pulling down 7.9 rebounds per game, which is just 0.2 RPG out of second.

Eacho scored the first four points for the Maroons, followed by three points each from Ramirez and Thacker, giving Roanoke a 10-8 lead just five minutes into the contest. The Maroons built a nine-point lead through the 9:19 mark as Amponsah knocked down a pair of treys to allow Roanoke to go up 24-15. Roanoke saw another nine point lead just a few moments later as Thacker dropped in a layup to go up 26-17. Roanoke's first half lead would not hold for long, as over the last 6:58 of the half, the Eagles outscored Roanoke 14-5. Roanoke entered the locker room down by three, 36-33.

In the first three baskets Roanoke scored in the second half, two were three-pointers from Amponsah, as the Maroons regained the 41-40 lead at the 17:33 mark. Roanoke gave up the lead again, but quickly recaptured it with a trey from Julian Ramirez. Eacho and Ramirez helped progress the lead to five, then Daniels scored four consecutive baskets for the Maroons, putting Roanoke up by 10, 57-47. Bridgewater built a comeback over the next few minutes, and took the lead at 6:42 as Tavis Stapleton knocked down a trey to go up one, 62-61.

Roanoke trailed by six with just 1:07 to play. Ramirez converted on a pair of free throws, and Eacho hit a jumper with :24 on the clock to pull Roanoke within two, 72-70. Bridgewater's Zach Hunter hit one of two free throws to put the Eagles up by three. With 16 seconds left, Amponsah hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 73-73. The Eagles called a time out with nine seconds to play, and with just one second on the clock, Ed Reddick hit a layup to give Bridgewater the 75-73 ODAC win.

The Eagles' Tavis Stapleton led Bridgewater with 15 points, while was followed by Ed Reddick with 14 points. Three other Eagles were in double figures, as Zach Hunter and Aaron Adams finished with 12 points and Matthew Hunter had 10.

Roanoke outshot Bridgewater 50.9 to 47.6 from the field, as well as holding the advantage from behind the arc 45.0 to 36.4 percent. The Maroons outrebounded the Eagles 43-26, while Bridgewater took advantage of points off turnovers, 24-13.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, February 6th as they take on Lynchburg in ODAC play. That contest is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
