Maroons Close Regular Season with 83-81 Win over Eastern Mennonite
HARRISONBURG - In the final game of the regular season, the Roanoke College men's basketball team defeated Eastern Mennonite University 83-81. The Maroons now have a record of 10-15, 3-13 in the ODAC, while the Royals finishes the regular season with a record of 14-11, 7-9 in ODAC play.

With tonight's win, the Maroons sealed the #10 spot in the ODAC tournament and will face off against #7 Bridgewater College on Tuesday, February 19th in Bridgewater. The winner of that contest will move on to play #2 Hampden-Sydney in the ODAC Quarterfinals in the Salem Civic Center on Friday, February 22nd at 6:00 PM. Kwasi Amponsah led the Maroons in scoring with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Entering the ODAC tournament, Amponsah ranks third in scoring in the ODAC, netting 17.2 points per game. Amponsah was followed in scoring by Daniel Eacho, who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Cameron Smith also finished in double-figures netting 11 points, and a team high nine rebounds. Andrew Daniels came off the bench to score 10 points.

Eastern Mennonite's R.J. Sims opened up the contest with a pair of treys to give the Royals a 6-0 lead in the first minute of play. Cameron Smith and Julian Ramirez responded with jumpers of their own to tie the game at 6-6. The teams stayed within two points of each other down to the 6:59 mark when Alexander Weant hit a layup to put Roanoke ahead by three, 25-22. The teams traded leads through the end of the first half, where Roanoke led by two, 41-39 entering the locker room.

The Maroons extended their lead to eight, 56-48, after Jordan Thacker hit a pair of three pointers, followed by Amponsah who hit a trey of his own. By the 10:00 mark, Roanoke built a lead of 13 after a pair of Andrew Daniels free throws. The Royals responded with a 17-0 run to go ahead 71-67 with just 5:10 to play. The Maroons worked their way back into the contest tying the game at 74-74 off Eacho free throws. The teams locked the game up until Roanoke took the lead of 80-78 with 1:48 to play. With :26 on the clock, Eastern Mennonite's Adam Burrows hit a trey to put the Royals up 81-80. Just eight seconds later, Eacho knocked down a jumper to regain the lead, 82-81. The final point of the game came with just eight seconds on the clock as Andrew Daniels drained a free throw to seal the game for the Maroons, in the 83-81 win.

Eastern Mennonite's R.J. Sims led all players with 19 points, going along with his four rebounds and a game-high six assists. Andrew Thorne finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. David Falk and Ryan Yates came off the bench to score 13 and 12 points, respectively. Falk also had a double-double with his 10 rebounds.

Roanoke outshot Eastern Mennonite 44.4 to 43.7 percent from the field, as well as leading 68.8 to 52.2 percent from behind the free throw line. The Maroons also led in steals 6-5 as well as rebounds 45 to 43.

The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, February 19th as they face off against Bridgwater. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
