Roanoke College Announces Basketball All-Decade Teams (Men's and Women's 2000s)
SALEM - In conjunction with its 100 Years of Basketball Celebration, the Roanoke College athletic department has announced the Basketball All-Decade teams on Thursday, March 14th. These All-Decade squads range from the Pre-Modern Era through the 2012-13 season, and were voted on by both a panel of judges and an online poll.

One of the storied programs in the history of men's collegiate basketball, Roanoke ranks as the 20th program to win 1,300 games and ranks as one of the all-time winningest program in NCAA Division III history. The program's 21 post-season appearances and 22 conference titles are unprecedented. Roanoke had two national semi-finalist finishes in 1972 and 1983 and an NIT Final Four appearance in 1939. The Maroons claimed the NCAA College Division national title in 1972. The program boasts 14 consensus All-Americans, nearly 100 all-conference selections and 34 1,000-point scorers.

The 100 Years of Roanoke College Basketball reception will highlight a number of planned events during Alumni Weekend (April 12-13). The weekend will open on Friday, with the Roanoke College Alumni Golf Tournament. Taking place at the Roanoke Country club, the golf outing will begin at 11:00 AM with lunch, followed by a shotgun start at Noon. The 100 Years of Basketball Celebration will take place in the Wortman Ballroom on Friday evening from 8:00-10:00 PM. During the event, the recipients of the All-Decade and All-Century team awards will be recognized. On Saturday morning, the women's and men's basketball teams will hold their alumni games in the Bast Center at 10:30 and 11:30, respectively. Also on tap for the weekend, the Maroon Club will host a reception from 2:00-4:00 PM at Sutton Terrace, for all Maroon Club members to attend. Listed below are the names of the members of the All-Decade teams from the Men's and Women's 2000s All-Decade Teams. Come back on Friday and see the reveal of the Men's Basketball All-Century Team!



Women's All-Decade Team

Carrie McConnell '00 - McConnell dished out a school-record 532 assists over her four-plus years in Salem. She also holds the single-game record (15) and is ranked seventh on the career steals list with 197 and eighth in three-pointers made (81). McConnell was a Second-Team All-0DAC selection in 1999 & ‘00. She led the Maroons as point guard to three ODAC Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Cheryl Rhodes '00 - Rhodes led the team in scoring and rebounding as a junior, which led to her All-ODAC recognition by season's end. She was named to ODAC All-Tournament team in 1998, leading the lowest-seeded team (#5) to win the conference title. The senior captain led the Maroons to the programs' last ODAC Championship in 2000.

Erin Hanson '08 - was an All-American selection following the 2006-07 season. She was named the 2004-05 ODAC Rookie of the Year and was the 2006-07 ODAC Player of the Year. Hanson was an All-South Region pick in 2006 & ‘07 and was a three-time First-Team All-ODAC player.

Caitlyn Long '10 - Long closed her career ranked 10th on the career scoring list (1,190), second all-time in career three-pointers made (188), sixth in career free-throw percentage and ninth in career free-throws made. She was a First-Team All-South Region, VaSID All-State and All-ODAC selection in 2010. three-time All-ODAC selection… two-time VaSID All-State selection.

Katrina Williams '03 - was a 2003 All-American in addition to a 2002 & ‘03 All-South Region and VaSID All-State selection at Roanoke. A three-time All-ODAC player, Williams was the 2003 ODAC Player of the Year and twice was ODAC Player of the week. She was on the D3Hoops National Team of the Week as a senior. Williams is 10th on the career points list (1,120), third in three-pointers made (150) and fourth in free-throw percentage (.799).

Crystal Barrett '02 - Barrett, a Northside graduate, was a two-time All-ODAC selection at Roanoke and named to the 2000 ODAC All-Tournament Team en route to claiming the Maroons 13th ODAC Championship. The three-time VaSID All-State post player holds the program record in career rebounds with 875 and scored 1,058 career points.

Jaleesa Osborne '10 - Osborne is a four-year starter, playing in every game, missing one start. The Gloucester High School product is a two-sport athlete, as a First-Team All-ODAC selection following her senior year. The Ordinary, VA native was a Second-Team All-ODAC selection her junior season. She is among the best players to wear a Maroon-and-white uniform, sitting second all-time in career steals and third on the career assists list. She has scored over 900 career points and was ranked among the top-25 nationally as a senior in assist-to-turnover ratio. For her storied career, Osborne has seven ODAC Championships on the track & field team.

Suzanne Webb '01 - Webb was a two-time honorable mention All-ODAC selection, including a 2000 All-ODAC Tournament Team selection en route to winning the ODAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament as a junior. Left the program ranked third all-time in career free throws and ninth in free throw percentage. Webb was named Second-Team All-ODAC following her junior year.

Jordan Gholson '11 - Gholson became the programs' 16th player to score over 1,000 career points and is currently in the top-10 all-time on the career scoring list. She is the school's all-time blocked shots leader with 211 and is currently fifth in ODAC history in that category. Her 667 career rebounds and 78% free throw percentage ranks her seventh at Roanoke while fourth in career field goal percentage. She was named All-ODAC three times in her career, earning back-to-back First-Team All-ODAC honors as a junior. She earned 2011 All-ODAC Tournament Team honors as she hit what would've been the game-winner in the ODAC Championship game, the programs' first since 2003. They eventually fell in overtime to Randolph-Macon.

Nicci Moats '12 - A Virginia native from Blue Ridge, Moats was a three-year starter for the Maroons. Moats enjoyed her finest season as a junior, where she was named First-Team All-ODAC and VaSID All-State. A Lord Botetourt product, she earned a Div. I scholarship to Tennessee before returning to the Roanoke Valley. She left Roanoke College as the single-season blocked shots leader and finished second all-time in blocked shots. She was voted to the 2011 All-ODAC Tournament Team, leading the Maroons to their first ODAC Championship game since 2003.


Men's All-Decade Team

Kwasi Amponsah '13 - Amponsah was a two-time Second-Team All-ODAC selection. He was a 1,000-point scorer and finished 17th on the career scoring list, in addition to being among the top-10 in steals and three-pointers made. He was named to every all-tournament team during his senior year, including two tournament MVP awards. He ranked among the top-three in the ODAC in scoring and free-throws during each of his final two seasons at Roanoke College.

Jason Strickland '01 - An honorable mention VaSID All-State team selection in 2000, Strickland may be better known for his three-point shot in the NCAA Tournament that sent the game into overtime and an eventual post-season win for the Maroons in 2000. On Nov. 24, 1999 he was named Columbus Multimedia National Player of the Week and was a three-time All-ODAC Team selection throughout his career. He joined Brad Dunleavy on the 2001 All-ODAC Tournament Team as he helped the Maroons into the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season. He was a 1,000 point scorer and finished fourth all-time with 179 steals.

Colby Leftwich '01 -A two-Time All-ODAC team player, Leftwitch shot 58.8 percent from the field during career and was a solid post player despite his size. He averaged 11.5 points and 8.6 rebounding average during senior season, which later earned him All-ODAC honors and a trip back to the NCAA Tournament in 2001. He was voted a spot on the 2001 Honorable mention VaSID All-State team. He enjoyed a breakout season as a junior, garnering All-ODAC honors after averaging 10.4 points and seven rebounds in 2000, leading Roanoke College to the ODAC Championship.

Josh LaPorte '08 - A Staunton, Va. native, LaPorte left a permanent mark on the Roanoke basketball program. An All-ODAC performer over his final three seasons, LaPorte grabbed over 800 career rebounds, which is fourth all-time and second among NCAA Div. III players behind Former All-American Gerald Holmes '83. The Riverheads High School product ranks third in career blocked shots, while his 172 career steals ranks him fifth all-time. He has also added over 1,000 points for his career along with 225 career assists, the most by any post player. LaPorte is one of only two players in school history to be ranked in the top-10 in rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots upon graduation. He was named MVP of the V-Foundation Classic and the RDV Sportsplex Classic All-Tournament team. He posted career-highs of 26 points and eight assists his senior year vs. Lynchburg.

Kevinn Hunter '05 - A two-time All-ODAC team selection, Hunter shot 60.6 percent from the field and is a school record. A 1,000 point scorer, Hunter earned First-Team All-ODAC honors, that after averaging career highs in both points (15.0) and rebounds (6.0) per game. In the process of scoring his 1,000th career point, Hunter scored a career-best 28 points in the game at Emory & Henry. Earlier in the year, Hunter proved his worth among the nation's centers, recording a career-high 19 rebounds against Randolph-Macon's All-American pivot. In a game with BC as a senior, Hunter set an ODAC record by making all 14 of his free throw attempts.

Josh Foster '03 - A two-time All-ODAC selection, Foster averaged 13.0 points and five rebounds in his two seasons with the Maroons. As a senior, Foster moved out of his natural forward spot to run the point guard position for the Maroons. In just two seasons, Foster blocked 40 shots, which by average is one of the top numbers in team history. He scored a career-high 23 points in his first ODAC contest, a 23-point effort in a victory over Emory & Henry College as a junior.

Jared Butler '06 - Butler completed his career as Roanoke College's 22nd all-time leading scorer. He finished his four-year career with 1,118 career points. His 159 three-pointers are also the second most in team history, trailing only two-time First Team All-ODAC performer and current RC assistant coach Robby Pridgen. Following his senior season, Butler, who was a senior captain with the Maroons, was Second Team All-ODAC selection.

AJ Dowell '08 - Dowell, who transferred from Hampden-Sydney after his freshman year, was on the 2007 ODAC All-Tournament Team, leading the Maroons to their first ODAC Championship in six years. A team captain as a senior, Dowell was a fundamental player and very competitive with outstanding leadership skills. He served as president of Roanoke College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as a senator on the Student Government Association. He was the second leading scorer as a junior and scored nearly 1,000 career points.

Keith Carter - '08 - A local product from Roanoke, Va. Carter was a key component of the Maroon attack during his career. Carter currently ranks sixth all-time in school history in assists. The Northside High School grad racked up nearly 150 steals which earned him a spot on the top-10 list by time of his graduation.

Jaimar Mansel '02 - Mansel finished his career among the top-10 all-time at RC in career, single-season and single-game steals. A defensive specialist, Mansel was a lockdown defender and helped the Maroons to a 2000 ODAC Championship, back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2000-01, and played with high school teammate Robby Pridgen in the backcourt to become one of the best in the south region.
