Maroons Nipped by Hornets, Fall 63-61 in ODAC Contest
LYNCHBURG - The Roanoke College men's basketball team lost to Lynchburg on Wednesday night, 63-61, after the Hornets knocked down a late game three-pointer. The Maroons now have a record of 8-14, 1-12 in the ODAC, while the Hornets are 17-5, 8-5 in ODAC play.

Daniel Eacho and Julian Ramirez led the Maroons in scoring with 11 points each, while Eacho completed a double-double with 10 rebounds. This is Eacho's fifth double-double in six contests, and he narrowly missed the accomplishment the last time these two teams played (11p, 9r). Kwasi Amponsah and Andrew Daniels had 10 points each, and Amponsah led all players in assists (4) and steals (5).

Both teams battled back and forth early on in the contest, seeing six lead changes in the first seven minutes of the contest. Roanoke took a firm grasp of the lead around the 13-minute mark in the first half, as Ramirez hit a layup, followed by a Daniels three-pointer, putting Roanoke up four, 14-10. Alexander Weant and Ramirez followed up with two more layups to go up by eight. Roaonke continued to hold the lead through the first half, even going up by as many as 15, 35-20 with 1:53 to play in the period. Roanoke entered the locker room at half ahead 37-27.

The Maroons maintained a strong lead early on in the second half, extending its advantage to 13, 46-33 with 15:32 to play. Over the next five minutes, the Hornets went on a 11-0 run, pulling within one, 46-45. Roanoke kept a hold of the lead until 7:09 when Andrew Simmons made a pair of free throws to tie the contest, and Austin Chillemi added two more to give Lynchburg it's first lead since early in the first half. Roanoke didn't led Lynchburg lead for long as Daniel Eacho hit two free throws, a layup for Ramirez, and Daniels capped if off with a trey to put Roanoke back up by five with 3:44 to play.

The Maroons had a two-point lead with 1:50 to play after Daniels dropped in a layup. Just seconds later, Austin Chillemi hit one of two free throws to cut Roanoke's lead to one. Neither team made a basket until there were 12 seconds remaining in the contest as Manny Hernandez hit a three pointer for Lynchburg to win the ODAC contest 63-61.

For Lynchburg, Manny Hernandez and Austin Chillemi led the team with 13 points each, followed by Michael Wims who tallied 10. Brandan Connor led the team in rebounds, pulling down eight boards on the night.

Roanoke outshot Lynchburg from the field, 37 to 26.6 percent, while the Hornets held the advantage from the free throw line, 82.1 to 57.7 percent. Lynchburg outrebounded Roanoke 52-38.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, February 9th as they play host to Shenandoah University. That contest is scheduled for a 3:30 tip-off. The event will also serve as Roanoke College basketball Alumni Day. For more information on the event, Click Here.
