Maroons Fall in ODAC Action to Randolph-Macon, 88-73
ASHLAND – The Roanoke College men's basketball team fell in ODAC action on Wednesday evening as they faced off against Randolph-Macon College, 88-73.  The Maroons now have a record of 6-5, 0-3 in the ODAC, while Randolph-Macon sits with a record of 8-4, 2-1 in ODAC play.
 
Daniel Eacho, the most recent ODAC Player of the Week, led all players in the contest in scoring with 21 points.  He also pulled down the most rebounds in the game, tallying 10.  Eacho is the only player in the conference in the top-five in both points (3rd - 18.3) and rebounds (2nd - 10.0) per game.  Eacho posted his sixth double double of the season in just 11 games played.
 
The Maroons outscored the Yellow Jackets 9-6 in the opening minutes of the contest as Eacho scored five of the first nine points.  With baskets by Eacho and Cameron Smith, the Maroons built a five point 13-8 lead with 13:59 to play in the half.  Ramirez hit a layup just a few minutes later to give Roanoke a six-point lead, which would end up being its largest lead of the contest. Akeem Homes and Simon Andre helped get the Yellow Jackets tie the game up at 21-21 with eight minutes to play in the half.  The last tie of the game came just a minute later, when Joe Hassel hit a layup to tie the game at 25-25.
 
Though the remainder of the first half, Randolph-Macon went on a 27-9 run, ending the period with a 52-34 lead.  Eacho led the Maroons with 15 points in the first half, followed by Andrew Daniels with five.  Julian Ramirez and Daniels each had four assists in the first 20 minutes of play.
 
The Yellow Jackets hit five points in the first three minutes of the second half, extending their lead to 23 points, 57-34.  With seven minutes to play, Randolph-Macon's Sullivan hit a layup to give the Yellow Jackets their largest lead of 30 points, 83-53.  Ramirez knocked down a trey followed by a layup to bring the Maroons back within 25. Eacho followed with a jumper of his own to cut the deficit even further. Over the final three minutes of the half, Roanoke held Randolph-Macon scoreless, scoring five points from Marcus Scott and four from Darius Ford.  However, in the end, Roanoke fell 88-73 to Randolph-Macon.
 
Along with Eacho's 21 points, Andrew Daniels followed with 14 points of his own.  Julian Ramirez tallied seven points, matching his scoring with seven assists.  Cameron Smith finished the game with six points, going along with nine rebounds, the second most in the contest.  Stefan Vulevic tallied nine points on the evening, hitting a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
 
Roanoke outshot Randolph-Macon 41.2 to 40.8 percent from the field, while the Yellow Jackets held a 47.6 to 36.4 percent advantage from behind the arc.  Randolph-Macon led in both rebounds (45-43) and assists (21-15).
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, January 11th as they play host to Shenandoah University.  That contest is scheduled for a 3:30 PM start.
